Overview

Packaging templates for yum and dnf based Linux distros to build NVIDIA persistenced packages.

The main branch contains this README. The .spec, .service, and .init files can be found in the appropriate rhel7, rhel8, and fedora branches.

This repo contains the .spec file used to build the following RPM packages:

note: XXX is the first . delimited field in the driver version, ex: 460 in 460.32.03

  • RHEL8 or Fedora streams: XXX, XXX-dkms, latest, and latest-dkms
nvidia-persistenced

For RHEL7 and derivatives, there are three sets of packages with different package dependencies.

The latest and latest-dkms flavors always update to the highest versioned driver, while the branch-XXX flavor locks driver updates to the specified driver branch.

  • RHEL7 flavor: latest-dkms
nvidia-driver-latest-dkms-persistenced

note: XXX-dkms is not supported for RHEL7

To use the precompiled flavors latest and branch-XXX, use yum-packaging-precompiled-kmod to build kmod-nvidia-latest or kmod-nvidia-branch-XXX kernel modules for a specific kernel and driver combination.

  • RHEL7 flavor: latest

  • RHEL7 flavor: branch-XXX
nvidia-driver-branch-XXX-persistenced

Prerequisites

Clone this git repository:

Supported branches: rhel7, rhel8 & fedora

git clone -b ${branch} https://github.com/NVIDIA/yum-packaging-nvidia-persistenced
> ex: git clone -b rhel8 https://github.com/NVIDIA/yum-packaging-nvidia-persistenced

Download a NVIDIA persistenced tarball:

Install build dependencies

# Compilation
yum install m4 gcc
# Misc
yum install libtirpc-devel
# Packaging
yum install rpm-build

Building with script

Fetch script from main branch

cd yum-packaging-nvidia-persistenced
git checkout remotes/origin/main -- build.sh

Usage

./build.sh [$version | path/to/*.tar.{gz,bz2} | path/to/*.run]
> ex: time ./build.sh 460.32.03
> ex: time ./build.sh ~/Downloads/nvidia-persistenced-450.102.04.tar.bz2
> ex: time ./build.sh ~/Downloads/nvidia-persistenced-460.32.03.tar.gz
> ex: time ./build.sh ~/Downloads/NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-450.102.04.run

note: runfile is only used to determine version

nvidia-persistenced branch flavors

Hi-

First of all thanks for putting all these scripts together.

Trying to build v 470.42.01 drivers for rhel7.

When I build from yum-packaging-nvidia-driver, I get three sets of RPMS for each 'flavor':
/home/admin/nvidia-driver/RPMS/x86_64/nvidia-driver-latest-dkms-470.42.01-1.el7.x86_64.rpm (and others)
/home/admin/nvidia-driver/RPMS/x86_64/nvidia-driver-latest-470.42.01-1.el7.x86_64.rpm
/home/admin/nvidia-driver/RPMS/x86_64/nvidia-driver-branch-470.42.01-1.el7.x86_64.rpm

The drivers require packages with the flavor name in them:

[admin@5f873ea1486b yum-packaging-nvidia-driver]$ grep persistenced nvidia-driver.spec
Requires: nvidia-persistenced-%{_named_version} = %{?epoch:%{epoch}:}%{version}

However, the branch of yum-packaging-nvidia-persistenced appears to name them all the same:

[admin@5f873ea1486b yum-packaging-nvidia-persistenced]$ grep Name nvidia-persistenced.spec
Name: nvidia-persistenced

So all three flavors get the same filename (nvidia-persistenced-470.42.01-1.el7.x86_64.rpm).

If I update the name, I get other errors which I can probably work around.

Just curious if that was something that was intended to be updated or if this is my error.
