rtx-remix's Introduction

RTX-Remix

NVIDIA RTX Remix, built on NVIDIA Omniverse, is an end-to-end platform for remastering DirectX 8 and 9 games with fixed function pipelines. NVIDIA RTX Remix enables experienced modders to remaster classic games by upgrading textures with AI, allowing easy replacement of game assets with high fidelity assets built with physically accurate materials, and injecting RTX path tracing, DLSS and Reflex technologies.

RTX Remix consists of two components: an application for creating lights and adding remastered assets into a game scene, and a runtime for capturing classic game scenes, injecting the remastered assets back into the game at playback, and relighting the game with path tracing. The RTX Remix runtime is open source–read about it here.

The runtime itself consists of multiple components, each with its own git repo. This combined repo references those components via submodules, at the specific commits that make up the current stable release.

Contributions

All contributions should be directed towards the individual component repos (below), this repo is just tying it all together in one place.

Contributions accepted to any of the submodules will eventually make it into a public release for modders everywhere to experience.

rtx-remix's Issues

Command & Conquer 3 hangs at launcher

When attempting to launch Command & Conquer 3, the app hangs at the launcher. No logs are created, but attempting to delete the DLL when it is placed in "..\EA Games\Command and Conquer 3 TW and KW\Command Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars\RetailExe\1.9" indicates the DLL is in use by the program.

ZOMBI - Closes, then runs in background.

Describe the bug
When trying to use rtx-remix with ZOMBI (https://store.steampowered.com/app/339230/ZOMBI/), the game would immediately close, then the game would open in the background, there's no way I can get into it and it practically gets stuck there.

TES4: Oblivion Crashes on Launch

Oblivion seems to crash regardless of video settings after adding Remix files to its folder. Log file may indicate a shared memory issue:

Settings in bridge.conf don't seem to have any effect on the output in d3d9.log file. For instance changing # useSharedHeap = True to useSharedHeap = False seems to have no effect, as does changing # sharedHeapPolicy = Textures, DynamicBuffers, StaticBuffers to sharedHeapPolicy = (the log still indicates that the Remix is using shared heap for the same things, and it still attempts to create and initialize shared memory).

using Deus Ex: Revision bug

back with old portal rtx files Deus Ex: Revision mod would run but all the textures bugged out but now when i run with the new files from this git hub i run into this
Screenshot 2023-04-12 142613
now is this a bug with the game or with this updated remix as it did not happen before?

Remix not loading with Star Wars Republic Commando, even with d3d8to9

Description
Republic Commando launches fine, but RTX remix does not load.
There are no logs created in the game directory.
Attempted to load using d3d9.dll alone, both the d3d9.dll and d3d8.dll together, and the d3d8.dll alone

To Reproduce
Simply attempt to launch Republic Commando with the remix files + the d3d8to9 d3d8.dll

Expected behavior
RTX remix should load in

Half-Life 2 attaching but not rendering correctly

So I got several versions of half-life/source engine to run with rtxr injected.
However once I get into the game, past the menu the game world quickly turns to black nothingness, some decals are still being rendered and I can toggle several rtxr settings but overall everything stays completely empty of textures. I can move around and "interact" with the world, as much as I can without seeing anything, and the game seems to be working fine.

It doesn't really matter what startup parameters I use, the results stay very similar.

Wrong location of bridge.conf

[19:21:35.239] info: Trying to open config file: GameLocation\.trex\bridge.conf

But in the 0.1.1 release, the "bridge.conf" file is located in the main folder. Like so:
remix-0.1.1
|--- d3d9.dll
|---bridge.conf
|--- .trex/

when i go and edit the remix file and set it to 2.0 it still locks it out
(from discord jtag ) MW2(2009) does not seem to respect client.shaderVersion inside bridge.conf despite setting it to 3.0 (the game uses sm3 shaders as well as 2.0) It still reports as 1.4 maybe this is a bug and it is happening to medal of honor pacific assault as well as when i run on 1.1 i have this

Zeno Clash (2009) fails to lock DX8 vertex buffer

Remix attaches to CoherentUI instead of game renderer for GW2

Guild Wars 2 uses CoherentUI for certain browser-based UIs. The Coherent renderer is different from game renderer and runs as a separate process.
When launching GW2 (running in DX9 mode with the -dx9 flag), Remix hooks into the CoherentUI renderer instead of the game executable (gw2-64.exe), presumably because Coherent launches first. The logs confirm that it indeed attached to CoherentUI_Host.exe.
NvRemixBridge.log

The DX9 renderering mode is deprecated, but it seems likely to me that the same issue would occur with other games using Coherent or CEF in a similar setup.

Launching GW2-64.exe directly using the NvRemixLauncher made no difference.
GW2 can load d3d9.dll files from both the main installation folder and the /bin64/ sub folder. I tried both, same result.

For developer reference, dx912pxy might be helpful, as it also redirects DX9 API calls (to DX12, not Vulkan) for GW2.

A way of specifying the exact process it should attach to might be useful to fix this issue. For example, NSight works fine with GW2 when using its feature for that.

Splinter Cell Chaos Theory and Splinter Cell Double Agent do not launch

Splinter Cell Chaos Theory single player and Splinter Cell Double Agent single player (aka splintercell3 and splintercell4) do not launch when attempting to use RTX Remix. The game will sit on a black or white screen, but never load any UI or viewport. Appears to hang the game as no other logging or components of the game will load. Eventually Windows will indicate the game has stopped responding. Attempted both windowed mode and full screen.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance hangs/freezes on launch

//Description
You launch it, it freezes, simple as. Take a look at the files if you want.
Set the shader model to either 1.4, 3.0 or 4.0, to no avail.
I've also disabled the Steam overlay, just in case. Nothing has worked so far.

//Driver/misc info
remix-0.1.1
RTX 4090
Driver ver 531.41
Steam, build unknown (latest)

//Reproducing the issue
You launch it, it freezes giving you a white screen. Windowed or full screen, same thing.

Midnight Club 2 (Steam Version) Issues

Here are some of the issues I've encountered trying to add rtx-remix to Midnight Club 2.

  • Does not work windowed (this seems to be due to dxvk incompatibilities, as the log points out). I've used DxWnd to force the game in windowed mode
  • Intro videos don't play
  • Main menu occasionally softlocks (In this case, the RTX menu can be opened via Alt+X but is unresponsible)
  • Visual artifacts, certain faces are completely black, certain models are not visible
    • Cars are invisible, however their lights reflect on the ground

Lord of the Rings: Return of the King crashes when on foreground.

Describe the bug

  • Using dxWrapper. The game crashes immediatelly on launch, but if I force it to run in windowed mode and open another window in front of the game window, thus running the game on the background, it works normally. As soon as I bring the game to the foreground, it crashes.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Follow the steps to install the dxWrapper (https://github.com/elishacloud/dxwrapper) and on the configuration file, enable D3d8to9 and on the d3d9 section, enable windowed mode.
  2. Run the game and immediately click away from the game screen.
  3. Hover the mouse over the icon on the task bar, it should show a preview of the game running.
  4. Click on the game icon to bring the game to the foreground, and it should crash.

Expected behavior
The game should open normally without crashing. It would open normally on the initial Portal RTX release, but after the update it stopped working, and both 0.1.1 and 0.1.0 exhibit this behavior.
