API clarification for tagged literals

I have some code with standard reader tags within. I can make
code->html work by binding rdr/*suppress-read* as true but it's
undocumented.

Is there a better way to use it?

I'm using:

(require '[html-soup.core :as hs])
(require '[oakclojure.tools.reader.edn :as edn])

(def code (pr-str {#inst "2001" "space odyssey" "id" (java.util.UUID/randomUUID)}))

Trying either of:

;;1
(hs/code->hiccup code)
;;2
(binding [rdr/*data-readers* clojure.core/default-data-readers]
  (hs/code->html code))

fails with:

1. Unhandled java.lang.AssertionError
   Assert failed: (string? form)
