galaxy-chromebook's Issues

Linux sleep kernel parameters

Hi Fellow Kohaku Owner!

So it looks MrCBx's firmware v4.13 defaults the mem-sleep/suspend state is sleep-2-idle, which really isn't suspend at all! Passing the kernel parameter : "mem_sleep_default=deep" will get you sleeping correctly!

Also, seeing as you are using Manjaro this might not apply, but on Fedora 34, I had to blacklist "elants_i2c". It was hanging sleep.

Hope that helps you and other users who find your guide useful.

Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Stock Firmware

I accidently overwrote my usb drive that had the stock firmware on it. Is there any chance you have a copy of this? Trying to go back to stock as my wife wants chromeos back.

Thanks

Working fix for "wakes up from suspend when lid is closed" [Manjaro 6.3]

I looked at journalct logs and came across this line: ACPI: PM: Low-level resume complete after some searching around I came across the fix here:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Power_management/Suspend_and_hibernate#Instantaneous_wakeups_from_suspend

Specifically disabling the one thing that came up from ls /sys/bus/i2c/devices/*/power/wakeup

I'm currently testing if the lid-close suspend is working based on what is set by Energy Saving -> Button events handling

Also regarding mem_sleep mine was [s2idle] set that to deep but I also had to edit grub eg. GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT

Audio issues

This is a tangent but I did have problems getting audio to work at first. I had a conflict with pulseaudio and pipewire... In the end I removed pulseaudio or at least it's not a "server option" when you do inxi -Fazy

I also added swap, I'm not sure if it was needed, I put 3GB on there (not for hibernation).

Some discovery after installing windows11

  1. The Samsung dedicated UFS card was confirmed to work on both windows11/Manjaro with seq read around 372MB/s and seq write around 202MB/s. And the uSD card works as well.

  2. It Seems the type c video output didn't work on either windows or Manjaro(despite the sound working), now using the USB A display link adapter as an alternative.
  3. Elan Touchscreen seems working after installing the updated crostouchscreen.2.9.3 driver.
    `%U1TZ%S80~K_PERDU4A{3E
  4. Driver download links in README were no longer available but can still be downloaded on coolstar's website
  5. I disabled my CR50 by disconnecting the battery because I don't have and don't want to buy a Suzy cable, maybe add that in README.
  6. Both cameras were working on windows11 but had no mic because of a lack of drivers.
  7. Keyboard backlit is working on both windows11/Manjaro
  8. S pen and its pressure sense works by default without any drivers
  9. Filping the laptop 360 can automatically activate the tablet mode in windows11

That's all discovery I found after trying custom UEFI firmware, hope it helps.

Kernel 5.15+ hangs on reboot, shutdown, and sleep

Just a heads up for distros that are not using a bleeding edge kernel. I've been running Arch Linux on this chromebook. Since the 5.15 kernel, sleep will hard lock the system (keyboard/mouse/clock on menubar/etc are not responsive, have to hold down power key and force a reboot). Reboot and shutdown hang at the final stage (unloading KVM). Blacklisting KVM didn't work, it just hangs at the next step up. 5.14 worked. The problem started with 5.15. v5.10.90 lts works fine as well, and this seems to be the last lts package from arch that works properly.

Drivers for windows

Hi
what has been done on this device is really great and makes this device capable of much more than what chrome os alone can achieve. I for one am really grateful for the job community has done here and I was wondering if there is any chance the rest of the drivers are also ready for windows?
thanks again

Touchscreen doesn't work

Hello:

Thank you for your tutorial for running linux on galaxy chromebook! I try to install ubuntu on this chromebook, but the touchscreen doesn't work (spen works). I try to install manjaro as you recomment which is no different. However, what surprises me is that it works after I close and reopen the laptop.

It confuses me a lot and I don't know why the screen works like this. BTW, the version of Ubuntu I installed is 21.10 and version of Manjaro (KDE) is 21.1.6, both of which own the kernel later than 5.10.

Thanks a lot!
