swate_install's Introduction

NOTE: This repository is deprecated as of May 9, 2022. Swate has its own installer for Windows and MacOS as simple CMD/Shell scripts now, thus this tool won't be updated anymore.

Swate Installer

As long as Swate will not be available from the Microsoft Store, this installer can be used. It aims to provide an easier solution then previous alternatives.
N O T E : Swate runs only on MS Excel 365, and MS Excel Online. We test on and develop for explicitly these versions.
(It is possible though that some older versions like MS Excel 2019 work.)

If you have any problems using this, please let us know here.

How to use it

  1. Download the newest version of the Swate Installer for your respective OS:
  2. Run the install application (e.g. in case of Windows: Install(Windows).exe). This will download necessary files and register Swate for your Microsoft Excel application.
  3. Open/Restart Excel ➔ Insert ➔ Click on the small arrow on the right side of My Add-ins ➔ Swate (Under Developer Add-ins).
    install
  4. You will be able to access Swate like this with all Excel instances.
  5. Deleting the config folder from the Swate folder will crash Swate. In that case you can simply run the install file again.

Uninstall

If you want to cleanly remove Swate from MS Excel, use the provided Uninstaller for your respective OS.
Swate Installer already downloads the fitting file for you into the folder where the executable Install file is. If you missed or accidentally deleted the file you can download it here:

  1. Right click on the links and choose "Save link as..."/"Save target as..."
  2. Place it into the folder where you installed Swate.
  3. Run it.

swate_install's Issues

Swate installed but not shown in the Add-ins list

Following the Swate Installer documentation, the installation process seems to be successfully completed as shown in the screenshot below:

2021-07-08 10_38

However, it is not shown in the Excel add-ins list:

2021-07-08 10_46_20-

In this case, Excel for Microsoft 365 version 2106 Build 14131.20278 was used on Windows 10. Both Excel and Windows have been restarted.

Are there any extra steps that should be carefully followed to solve this issue?

Thank you in advance.

EDIT: just found that a similar issue has been posted here, and the online installation works fine.
