npm 5 - lockfile

going to need to add something about the lockfile mechanism - probably in the modules chapter

Syntax doubt

I'm reading the 10 chapter, Building Microservice systems.
And I came accross to this syntax below at page 506 (Standardizing service boilerplate)

function createClient (ns, opts) {
  return createClient[ns] || (createClient[ns] = nos(net.connect(opts)))
}

Didn't quite understand the createClient[ns] = nos(net.connect(opts)) part, What it means? Why should I use it?

Is this syntax documented anywhere?

reminder - coordinating IO - change Buffer(1e6) to Buffer.allocUnsafe(1e6)

npm 5... `--save` is not needed

will have to go through all recipes, and remove --save

how do we manage this for users who aren't using npm 5...

@mcollina @mafintosh @pelger - any thoughts?
