Grain to Glass Part 1) Craft Brewery additions

Hello, love this mod this is the first of a pair of posts making suggestions to expand the beer and spirits options.

I tried to sign in with my other screen but can't seem to remember my login.

I'd really love to able to make a true craft brewery in this game and your mod is the one that goes the furthest in doing so. This post will suggest the addition, renaming or reclassification of various crops and artisan products to make it more similar to a craft brewery,

In SDV beer is made out of wheat, which is not the most common of beer grains. Typically beer is made from barley. I propose that "beer" be dropped altogether. Instead the following.

Wheat---->Hefeweizen
Hefeweizen is a traditional wheat beer style from Bavaria in Germany, home to some of the most famous wheat beers in the world.

Barley---->Lager
Barley is the most commonly used grain for beer and lager is among the most common styles of beer. Everything from Budweiser, to stella artois to tsingtao to Molson is a lager.

Wheat Malt---->Dunkelwiezen
Dunkelweizen is the traditional dark beer equivalent to the lighter hefeweizen, both use wheat though one dunkels the wheat is roasted more.

Barley Malt ---->Stout
All good here.

Durum---->Weizenbock
Though not commonly used for brewing Durum is a type of wheat. It could be used to brew Weizenbock which is a traditional German strong wheat beer.

Rice---->Light Beer
Rice is used to give light beers a very sooth and light body. In game Unmilled rice could be used to create American style Light Lagers like Coors Light or Bud Lite. Rice flour would continue to be used for Sake.

Corn---->Corn Beer or Chicha
Corn is not typically made into juice as in SDV but it can be made into beer. Many beers include corn in their recipes as ancient American cultures created Chicha, a type of corn beer that is still brewed today and is beginning to crop up at Craft Breweries.

Amaranth, Quinoa and Buckwheat ---->Gluten Free Beer
Three pseudocereal grains that are more and more commonly being used to make Gluten Free beers for people who have Gluten allergies.

Oats---->Oatmeal Porter
Oats are often added to dark beers to add body, resulting in a thick velvety mouthfeel. Many porters have Oats added to them.

Rye---->Roggenbier
A traditional grain which can be used to make German style Rye beer. Could also be used to make "Rye Pale Ales"sometimes called Rye P As. Can also be used to make Rye Bread, which is in turn used to brew Kvass in eastern Europe,

Pumpkin---->Pumpkin Ale
Never heard of Pumpkin juice outside of Harry Potter, but come fall hundreds of Craft Breweries begin churning out Pumpkin ales, which used to be brewed in colonial times as well. Any type of Squash, including butternut, can be used to brew Pumpkin Ale.

Potato---->Potato beer
Potatoes have often been used to brew beer, potato Juice, not so much.

Cave Carrots/Winter Roots---->Root Ale
Any starchy root can be used for brewing, including these two fictitious ones.

Sweet Potatoes/yams/Snow Yams---->Sweet Potato beer
Many Craft breweries are using Yams/Sweet Potatoes to try their hand at brewing.

Dandelion---->Dandelion Ale
Dandelion roots and leaves have been traditionally used to make a bitter ale in Engalnd.

Mixed Seeds ----> Wild Ale
Don't know about you, but usually after a couple years my mixed seeds wind up in a chest somewhere. What if we could use those to make wild ale instead? Many wild grasses are in fact edible, some are relict crops which used to be used to make food and beverages (for instance crab grass).

Sweetgale---->Gruit Ale
New crop, used to be used as a flavoruing before Hops were widespread, Sweetgale is still used to make traditional Gruit Ales.

Spruce Tips---->Spruce Beer
Possible Forage option from pine trees. Used to make traditional Spruce Beer.

Other

Millet, Sorghum, Teff and Job's Tears
4 types of ancient grains that are used to make beers in Africa and Asia, both international and traditional styles can be made.

Farro Grains (Emmer, Spelt and Einkorn)
3 types of Ancient wheat which could be used to make ancient wheat beers.

As I said, I really love this mod and would love to see it expanded further.

Suggestion: Hazelnut tree

I thought it would be silly not being able to grow hazelnut trees and especially with the frangelico Hazelnuts are needet so I made one (I took the existing ones as blueprint and tested it it worked). But I don't now how to do the sprites. below I posted the .jason file I converted to .txt. feel free to use it.

tree.txt

Wrong pull request

I'm sorry, I've misplaced the lotus root files.
It was not the "crops" folder but the "objects" folder.

Cannabis Kit Outdated

I made a nexus account for your very mod and I am heartbroken to see it is not updated, will it work still? What do I have to do to get you to update it? I love your work

crop discrepancies

Was bamboo meant to be a paddy crop? It was made into one with the 1.4 changes, but then lost it when the translations were put in.

Adzuki Bean growth stages give 9 days, description 10.
Bamboo growth stages give 7 days, description 5.
Cotton growth stages give 7 days, description 6.
Soybean growth stages give 9 days, description is 10.
Zucchini growth stages give 14 days, description is 12.

Bamboo description missing that it regrows.

Crab Roll

Recipe does not include crab as an ingredient

Grain to Glass Part 2) Craft distillery options

I love all the options to make spirits in Artisan Valley, but I think there's room to flesh them out even further so we can have a craft distillery that can pump out spirits year round! This is part 2 of my suggestions to expand alcohol creation options in SDV.

Grains

Any form of cereal or pseudocereal grain can be used to make whisky. The most commonly used are corn, barley, wheat and rye. in AV Corn is used to make bourbon whiskey and barley is used to make scotch. Wheat is used to make plain old whiskey. I propose Rye be added to make Rye Whisky. Other grains (which I suggested adding in the brewery post) including amaranth, durum, oats, quinoa, buckwheat, millet etc can all be used to make generic "whiskey" just like wheat which has no specific whisky style named after itself. These would all have to malted beforehand.

A note on Scotch. Scotch is term meaning specifically "whisky from Scotland" it should really be called "Single Malt whisky" or "Malt Whisky".

Unmalted Sorghum could be used to make Chinese style Baijiu.

Unmalted millet could be used to make Raksi, a Nepalese spirit.

Distilled rice could be used to make komejochu a Shochu made from Rice specifically. japanese distillers are also now making whisky out of Rice.

Roots

Potatoes are already used to make vodka in AV. I propose that Winter Roots and Cave carrots , which are described as starchy tubers, also be able to be turned into vodka.

Yams and Snow Yams should be able to be turned into Shochu. If the dev team feels that they represent true yams rather than different cultivars of sweet potatoes they could also be turned into vodka.

Fruits

Though I do like the current system of any wine being turned into brandy I think a little refinement is possible. This would be the addition of Calvados, a style of apple brandy from France. This would be made from cider and perry, as both apples and pears are permitted in Calvados.

Other

Sap is used in parts of the world to make a distilled beverage known as Arrack. 10 or 20 sap could be used to make Arrack.

Maple Syrup is used in Quebec, Canada to make a distilled beverage called Acerum.

Pine Cones are used in alpine countries to make a liqueur called zirbenschnaps.

Thanks for hearing me out really enjoying SDv with the additions Av has made to it!

Thank you so much for all your work!

Minor Mod QOL Suggestion

Suggesting if there is any way to make a Mod to identify the missing items in the shipping tab? Unfortunately I installed the mega pack before achieving the A Full Shipment Achievement and i now have to find each every PPJA item huhuu

Suggestion: Lower Profit Margin Option

Hey there! I realised while playing SVE that the lower profit margin option in that mod is really fun and interesting, as it makes so my gradual building of wealth isn't so sudden (especially with mods like farming made easy).

I was wondering if it would be possible to add a option to this mod that would cut down the sell price by 20% of all crops, I managed to do it myself but it took about an hour to fix all the values, as I had to edit each file manually, all those changes would go away once I updated the mod.

Thank you for the awesome mod!

Sparkling Wine meaningless?

20210704160143_1
Sparkling Wine made using Rhubarb Wine

20210704210831_1
Sparkling Wine made using Strawberry Wine

Sparkling Wine costs 300g flat (before Artisan). Add the base price of potato (80g), and it becomes profittable only for the cheapest wines (Fruit price < 74g, only 5 basegame fruits fit this). Even then, add the processing time and it really does not look worth it.

Fish in foreign cask

Here's another idea for the Foreign cask. What if we were able to put any fish in it to make Artisanal Fish sauce?

This would be really worth it for small time fish like sardines and anchovies that don't really merit being put in the smoker.
Instead of multiplying the value it would be a blanket price for all fish sauce that comes out (say 500) so the more expensive fish wouldn't be worth putting in.

Nuts

I looked at Mousey's list and I don't see any artisan goods that can be done with some of the nuts. Pistachio, pine, and Macadamia at least. Can we make them into nut butter or roast them? Maybe in the furnace?

Cannabis Kit Mod - Issue

Hello, Paradigm!

I have an issue that I wanted to confirm with you, since I downloaded the Cannabis Kit mod (for Stardew Valley).

Are these recipes from your mod?

If so, is the mod broken? Since this message appears all the time.

I'm using the BETA version of the mod, by the way. I don't know if the reason of the spam is because of that.

Anyways, thanks in advanced!

The material "eggs" used for this are individual small eggs (ID176), is this what you intended?
In the egg category (ID6)?

Suggestion: Canner

I don't know how this works, I'm a complete newbie but I've recently discovered these mods and I'm loving how they work with Automate and the Deluxe Autograbber unofficial mod. I've always hated how there was some crops/forage you couldn't really do anything with and this has been great. I am noticing a few things that still are dead ends though, mostly beach forage. Clams, oysters, and cockles still don't do anything (unless I just haven't found it yet, in which case please, enlighten me) I thought perhaps a new machine could solve this. I was thinking about a canner. I use a pressure canner IRL and you can Jar most anything including meat and fish. Obviously you could also have canned veggies too which would give you a logical way to do things like corn and such (who would really eat pickled corn?) I have plenty of free time and a willingness to learn if there is any way I can help but I have zero experience in any kind of coding and I'm not really artistic.

Cooking Tab Suggestions

I'm not sure about this but I think Pathoscookie, Milky Peach and Milky Coffee are part of the cooking tab even though they can't be cooked. Are there plans to have recipes for these objects?

Workbench weirdness with Artisan Valley

When viewing Artisan Valley machines in the workbench crafting menu, the names are incorrect and highlighted even if you lack the materials to make them. When viewed from the character crafting menu, all works as intended.

Suggestion: Update Key

Hi,

In Khadija's Recipe Shop, there is no Update Key.
Adding it would be helpful for us to know if there is an update & to essentially get rid of the extra reminder to remind the author of the mod to add the update key.

Thanks.

Smoked Salmon should be a bit better?

i.e.

  1. Smoked (Fish) has 3x price multiplier, except for salmon, which has only 2x multiplier.
  2. Despite that they both take the same amount of time

What this is implying is that you should reserve your smoker to other more expensive fish.

I made some Recipes

I honestly do not get how this site works but I made some recipes and I post them here. I made a Toast recipe as basis for Toast hawaii and toast williams, I would suggest to replace the bread used in avocado toast too with toast. I did somewhat adjust prices and edibility but I don't really know how to balance. Feel free to use them as you want I would be honored. It was fun I might make more if appreciated. Would appreciate a short feedback.

(I made the sprites and the .json I'm native german so I made the de translation too)

Having Trouble with Mizu's Flowers

I am hoping that you might be able to help me and also that you should know. I have multiple stored flowers that are being overwritten by another mod (I believe). Here is the post I entered on Baker's Life:

June 6: I just installed 2 new mods, Chocolatier and Baker's Life, and while I would love to use them, there are several flowers that have been changed or replaced. In my flowers1 folder, my Chayote flowers now have a picture of the seed instead of the flowers. In the same folder, I had three other varieties of flowers that now say they are Duckvine Seeds, Golden Tigerseye Faberge, and Red Onion Seeds although each still has the categroy of "Flower". I'm sorry but I don't remember what the original flower was. In my Flowers2 folder, there are Chayote seeds again - I don't think I had Chayote in two different folders although I can't be sure. If I didn't that means yet anpther flower was overwritten. Also, my Spring Rose flowers have been changed to a picture of the seed just like the Chayote and another flower has been changed to Double Chocolate Gelato, again not sure what the original flower was. In my Flowers3 folder, two flowers have been overwritten and are now Baker's Lemon Coconut Cake and Persimmon Pudding.

As I said, I installed 2 mods and both were created by this mod author. I am not sure which mod is causing the issue.

June 12: So, I thought that I maybe I shouldn’t have said anything because it looked like the other flowers I grew were doing fine and it was only the ones I had stored in chests that were affected. I was wrong. I have gone through a couple of more seasons and grown more flowers, stored them in chests, and things were fine – until I restarted. Now, I have more strange products taking the place of my flowers. It seems to be the flowers from Mizu’s Flowers. I know I had these flowers – Fairy Duster, Purple Coneflower, Bee Balm, and Shaded Violet. Even the honey that I made from Rafflesia has been affected by the image changing on the honey. The products that replaced my flowers are different this time – Schnapps, Sulfur Shelf Mushroom, Barley Kombucha, Enchanted Golden Diamond Faberge, and Porter.
I have only installed 3 new mods recently, so I assume one of these mods is the culprit. They are Baker’s Life, Chocolatier, and SOJA Ancient Crops.

I am not sure what information you might want to investigate the issue. Please let me know.

Artisan Valley saplings issue

Hello!
I am not able to complete any recipes that have a sapling (like banana ice cream).
I'm not sure if the machine does not recognize it as a cooking ingredient and that is why, but it's a thought I had.
Thanks!

Potentially infinite leather exploit in Fresh Meat

I'm playing with a lot of mods so it's possible this could be a compatibility thing, but when you have a full inventory and try to harvest a meat crop that can drop leather while standing in it, it will just continue to drop leather onto the ground as long as you are holding the button to harvest. I have tested this on Pork and Chevon so far and it worked on both, so I would assume it works on the other leather producers. Smapi doesn't produce any text or errors when this happens, but I'll send my log anyway so you know what mods I'm using.
https://smapi.io/log/c36f4bbe17a94fcb8d77084ea5101be7 (all of the update notifs are for ones that didn't update their manifest properly)

Minor Korean translation issue about Green Beans and Green Peas

As I know, the official Korean translation for the Green Bean (in which we eat the bean pods) is "완두콩" which actually translates to "Green Peas". The Korean translation for Green Peas became "그린 피스" to avoid collision, which is just the transliteration of "Green Peas", which sounds awkward when there's a proper translation, "완두콩" (Besides Google thinks 그린 피스 actually means Greenpeace (The organization)). I would have fixed it otherwise, but the official translation is the problem.

Wax, Soap don't account for "fuel".

It's not worth it to make soap/candles as the input for these 2 machines costs much more than the output.

Simply incrementing by the price of the oil/beeswax when calculating the price of the two items should be enough.

Russian translation

Hi! My teammates and I would like to finish/update the translation of your mods into Russian. How should we do this? Cause we are new to GitHub and don't know many things :D Can we fork your repository and translate this way? If we can't, pls explain the other way.

Cotton as a fruit doesn't make sense

Cotton can be made into jelly and wine, along with other mods that accept fruit like dried fruit in the dehydrator, fruit juice in the juicer. Maybe it would fit better under the resource or forage tags if that's possible; even flower might work.

Tea bags

I'm not sure if this is a question or a suggestion but can you make tea from the tea bags the dryer produces? I thought you needed to put them in the glass jars but it looks like they don't go.

Consider banishing some crops/trees to Ginger Island

Funny issue name aside...
In Stardew 1.5, Ginger Island has become the home of tropical crop and tree offerings. I feel like there is an opportunity here to take some of the PPJA suite's more tropical crops and trees and make them be obtained on Ginger Island. This would let the mod expand upon Ginger Island's crop and tree offerings, while also giving the more tropical crops a more fitting home.

The vanilla taro tuber, pineapple seeds, mango sapling and banana sapling are all obtained from the Island Trader in exchange for different items whose rarity roughly correspond to their value: taro tubers require cheap bone shards, pineapple seeds require more uncommon magma caps, banana saplings require rare dragon teeth, etc. They also all drop from golden coconuts with an equal chance to eachother. Other possible points of integration include the volcano dungeon monster drops and chests.

Suggestion: New paddy crop

...and a conversion idea of already existing crop into one.

For rice to be profittable, you need to build a mill. Even then, it gets overshadowed by every non-flower crop. While ConcernedApe added a new mechanic in 1.4, it is underwhelming. This is where mods come in.

  • Edit: It is a lot more profittable than I originally thought; still, there is only one paddy crop which is a bit... unbalanced?

I have 2 specific ideas:

  • Wasabi should change to a paddy crop, since these are grown semi-aquatically IRL. This ties in nicely with taro and rice being paddy crops, AND wasabi being essential to sushi (synergy with river farm).
  • Lotus roots. Those are edible, and lotus flowers have cultural significance in parts of Asia. They also happen to be grown in paddy-like conditions. You can get gimmicky and make it both vegetable and flower (and when you harvest it you get both), or just drop the flower and make it purely vegetable.

(Mizu's Flowers) Consider gating Rose to year 2

Regular rose crops grow through all three seasons. The only vanilla crop to do this is the ancient fruit, whose rare nature gates it to later on, especially in large quantities. While the rose is nowhere near as valuable as the ancient fruit, I feel that having it available immediately detracts from the early game emphasis on crop seasons. As such, I would like to suggest gating the availability of rose seeds to year 2, and pushing Haley's letter about it to year two as well.

items repeatedly displayed in the shop menu

When I open the shop menu and use F1(Lookup Anything) to view the seed details, and close the F1 window, the items of ppja or other items added by mod will be repeatedly displayed in the shop menu. I don't know which mod caused it
