Happy with your current constitution? No? Well, you've come to the right(s) place

Concept / the issue we are trying to solve

  • What is the difference between right and wrong?
  • How do you tell the difference between good and evil?
  • How do you decide if you are pro or con on an issue:
  • Are you positive or negative?

There have been, are, and will be many suitable, just and good answers to these questions. Every answer is different. Even when answers appear to be identical, they differ because of the varying context that gave rise to that answer in its particular time, place and milieau.

Parallel Constitution is a place where you may find, compare and contrast the many different questions and answers. You may use this input to help you determine a good response for the questions of different eras, locations or social organizations.

We may say that all the answers to the questions of good and evil contains elements of good and evil. And, on the whole, this is good. It would be sad if we all agreed on everything.

Welcome to a place that agrees on disagreeing in the nicest, smartest, most knowledgeable ways. Welcome to Parallel Constitution.

Examples

The strategy will be to list side-by-side equivalent sentences or phrases from multiple constitutions. Every sentence will indicate its source and date.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 1949

  • Article 3. Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 1976

  • Article 6. Every human being has the inherent right to life
  • Article 9. Everyone has the right to liberty and security of person

Egypt Parallel Constitution, 2013

  • Section 1.3. Each individual has the right to life, freedom, and privacy in peace of mind and personal security

Mohamed's Request for a Plan

@parallel-constitution/core

Mohamed's recent email, copied to GitHub by Theo - so it may be viewed by anybody today and in the future

We need to write a 1 2 3 plan of what to be done, and the goals we would like to achieve, and the suggested tools.

It would be helpful as such a plan could serve as a paper to get back to when things get fuzzy and unclear.

The Parallel constitution project took from me 3 months included:

  • calling for participants
  • calling for volunteers
  • collecting materials
  • reading
  • discussing and debating
  • drafting
  • finalizing and translating to English
  • launching (including the conference)
  • and finally creating the website (took 10 days).

If we can get something like that, including the goal and the plan of how to achieve it, it would be very helpful so then we are all able to capitalize on time.

I don't think what we are creating should take more than two weeks if it's just about creating website and moving content from the old to the new. Unless there is something I am not getting.

Updates 2017-08-15

@parallel-constitution/core

One of the featured speakers at the Building Simulation conference I attended last week was Professor Tarek Rakha, PhD who teaches architecture at my alma mater, Syracuse University. I showed him the list of contributors on the WordPress sites. He sends his greetings.

Please send my greetings! :-)

I have been working on this page: https://parallelconstitution.wordpress.com/about/sources/

I think the work is about halfway finished.

I want to add links to the contributors page:

https://parallelconstitution.wordpress.com/about/contributors/

I found Sawsan's Twitter and LinkedIn pages but Mohammed and Mak: you are more difficult to pin down. ;-)

Please send me one or two relevant links. This will help show that real people were involved and that this was not fake news. You will get bonus points for sending a quote.
