Overview:

  • This project will allow you to set a breakpoint in your sketch and step through it
  • Proper wiring to each device is supported and expected in some cases
  • Actual Arduino libraries such as Keypad.cpp are used wherever possible.

Free CPP Compiler:
The free cpp compiler that was used to build this project can be downloaded from http://sourceforge.net/projects/orwelldevcpp/

Build/Run instructions:

  • Download and install above cpp dev compiler
  • Download ArduinoDebugger.zip from this github repository
  • Unzip the contents of ArduinoDebugger-master.zip/ArduinoDebugger-master to C:\ArduinoDebugger
  • Open C:\ArduinoDebugger\prjArduinoSimulator.dev in cpp dev
  • Execute, Rebuild All from cpp compiler (F12)
  • Execute, Compile and Run from cpp compiler (F11)
  • Ignore Serial Monitor, and select Project, Open Project
  • Select an existing project (like SevenSeg.txt)
  • This will change a source file called: sketch.ino, so you must close the program and rebuild all (F12) and Run(F11) again
  • Again select the same existing poject (like SevenSeg.txt) this time the sketh.ino will not change
  • The graphical interface should now behave like expected, and breakpoints can be set in the cpp dev environment to step through the arduino code

I have recently discovered TDD which dictates that
all code changes be preceded by a test case enhancement. While I don't have that many test-cases, I do have a suite of
projects which are loaded and tested before every release.

Design Notes

  • SimUtilities Class
    Contains utilities to list all connections and set a value on the connection
  • Pull-up Resistor
    • pinMode (pinNumber,INPUT);
    • digitalWrite (pinNumber,1); // Set pull-up resistor
    • Will have constValue.value = 1, and constValue.resistance = 20000

License

Please consider adding a license for this project so the community can explicitly know the terms regarding use, modification, redistribution, etc.
(For example, the c++ compiler referenced in the readme is licensed under GPLv3.)

Cant get the app to run on 32 bit windows 7 machine

Hi - I am trying to get the program to execute for the first time but am not able to do it. Also the instructions are not clear.

The following the Build/Run instructions given in the read me section as are being used.

  1. Download and install above cpp dev compiler
  2. Download ArduinoDebugger.zip from this github repository
  3. Unzip ArduinoDebugger.zip to C:\ArduinoDebugger
  4. Open C:\ArduinoDebugger\prjArduinoSimulator.dev in cpp dev
  5. Compile and Run, Open a project
  6. Rebuild All if the sketch.ino changes
  7. Set breakpoints, Debug

I have done everything till step 5 above and I even get the "prjArduinoSimulator.dev" opened and compiled in the IDE. But this is where the confusion starts.

The compile and run instruction does not run any program - the compile log just shows the Compilation succeeded message - when I saw one of the demo video, there was a window popping with the title "High Level Menu" -which was what I was expecting but it never shows up.

I tried executing the prjArduinoSimulator.exe file(assuming its the high level menu app) directly but it shows a popup saying the version of the file is incompatible and that I need to check if I need the 32 or 46 bit version of the program.

Even when I debug - it does not allow me and shows the same message as above.

The second part of step 5 instruction ("Open a project") is not clear to me. Is this supposed to be a project that was created for my Arduino application in Arduino IDE or something in the ArduinoDebugger? The entire workflow/steps for creating a board with wired components and running my code against it is not clear.

Also at what point and why would the sketch.ino file change - requiring a me to rebuild?

I think all the problems maybe due to the compiler settings generating incompatible binaries that are 64 bit. Once the UI is up maybe the workflow will get clear and I will be able to test my Arduino app.

It will be extremely helpful if some one take the time to help so that I can get this awesome app running and use it for my project.
