iphonetracker's Issues

Location information in a tooltip or information window

Not an issue per se, but a feature request. Would it be possible to have tooltips display the location information and the timestamp when the circle on the map is either clicked or hovered over or displayed in a separate information window when clicked?

I have the project loaded in Xcode but I am not normally a Mac developer, so it isn't readily apparent where I might jump in and try to add this, but I will keep looking.

My initial guess is that this would be a function of the g_mapSettings and not the Objective-C code. Can anyone confirm or deny that?

No user-interface to select different device

I know there is an FAQ about this - adding it more as a task, rather than an issue.

It would be nice to have the option to choose which backup the locations are taken from. And an a bonus it would be nice to do multiple and visualise them on one map.

No tracking outside US?

I don't believe this is pulling down info while I am outside the US. I've used the phone in both Europe and Asia during the reporting period. Though the trips might be falling into some of the time gaps noted. Another possibility is that the overseas cell systems do not track the same way. Is there any info as to whether this works the same on Verizon and ATT as they are different systems.

Probably good idea for legal reasons, but it implies that this is may be being done with approval from the Apple Legal department.

Big timelapses in my tracker-map

Hi!
I have big timelapses in my map after loading iPhonetracker.app, there can be weeks between "timesteps" and i have no time stamps at all... Is there any way to set the resolution, lets say i want to import every single day(the last year or so) on the map?

The example video(amtrak) on the homepage had a lot more information imported and shorter "timesteps". How can i get a more detailed map of my own?

Would really appreciate the help, and thank you for the awesome work!

/Reiker

How do I run this?

Sorry for the silly question, but...I saw the closed issue where someone was just opening the index.html file, and was told to "run the app". I don't see an app anywhere, though. All I've got are a bunch of .m., .h, .xcodeproj, etc. files. Where's the binary? What am I missing?

Turning the 127000 line entries into something meaningful.

I have now got access to the data on the sql file and now im wondering how do I export this info into somthing which will show me on a map where ive (or my phone) has been?

please bear it in mind, im not that technical.

Cheers in advance

I wasn't there!

Any idea how to interpret info that says I was someplace that I have not been with my iPhone?

Specifically, I live in San Diego, but the tracker says I was all over northern Las Vegas in late June of 2010, shortly after getting my phone. The last time I was in Vegas, however, is at least 3 years ago. It was among one of the first iPhone 4's shipped out, so no way it was a return that had previously been in that area.

Are Timestamp correct?

Hi,

I couldn't use the application yet as I'm not on my Mac but I have extracted the database file from my iPhone and took a look at it with a sqlite database browser.

I could see the timestamp is not standard and after checking the source code here, I could see the comment in the code saying Apple seems to start from January 2001 instead of the unix January 1970.

In the sql query, I used the same addition than in the source code (31_365.25_24_60_60) but the results seem to be off a little (a few hours).

Going to the website http://calendarhome.com/, I got that between January 1970 and January 2001, there are 978307200 seconds and so I added those instead.

Now I seem to get something closer to reality for the timestamp.

Do you people who used the app get correct timestamps?

Stuck on "Loading"

I've tried opening index.html in Firefox and Safari, and it just shows the map with nothing on it, and the spinning progress indicator which is labeled "Loading". I've waited as long as 10 minutes and nothing happens?

OS Compatibility?

Which machines and operating systems is this compatible with? Why are there no minimum system requirements mentioned anywhere?

It does not work on a PPC running 10.4.11 (no surprise)

It also does not work on an Intel Macbook running 10.5.8 (this is much more unexpected)

how to run it in Windows?

When I run te index.html it onely shows the mub al loading is yust spining and spining and spining , what to do ? Help !

Will not run on my MacBook Pro.

Have a MacBook Pro Intel CoreDuo running OSX 10.6.6. Pop-Up Window says: "You can't open the application iPhoneTracker 2 because it is not supported on this type of Mac." Any fix for this? Thanks!

iphone 3g not tracking "everywhere" I go.

This is not a bug on the software, but is perhaps important information nonetheless.

Firstly my iPhone 3G doesn't record my location, but that of nearby cellphone base stations. But it does record a number of them, and does enough information to perhaps figure out where I was at a particular time.

Secondly, it does this very rarely.

There are 2420 records in the database of cell phone locations, many at the same time. After analysing the data I find that there are 53 occasions where the iphone has recorded all the data of the cellphone locations near me, over a period from 2010-06-26 13:49:05 to 2011-04-10 16:28:16 a period of 288 days.

That is, it only checks the location of the cell phone base stations once every 5.43 days on average for me. Though at that particular point someone may well be able to determine my location, it is certainly not the treasure trove of information I was expecting to find based on the claims made on the website.

Perhaps this is only true of my iPhone, or only of all the iPhone 3G version.

Something that rare could be linked to my usage of google maps, or other location based services, which would mean it was caused by user interaction, rather than being an always on spy in your pocket...

I should point out that the "data fuzzing" of the application hides the fact there's so little data it's based upon

Problems with installing iPhone Tracker

I cannot run iPhoneTracker. I downloades and installed the app which when launched displays a map then the following error message appears error: "Couldn't load consolidated.db file from '/Users//Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup'"

I've checked i Phone via iTunes and back up is not encrypted. I'm running iTunes 10 via OSX 10.6.6 on a Dual-core Mac Pro.
Iphone is running 4.3.4

Any ideas please.

OpenStreetMap credits

Thanks for using OpenStreetMap. This is great. Your popular app is bringing OpenStreetMap to new people. Hopefully some proportion of those people will get curious about the map, and learn how to contribute to our project.

Wow this application is popular! How do I know? Because actually we're feeling extra strain over at (not-for-profit) OpenStreetMap.org from your users viewing the map tiles coming from our server:

The (volunteer) sysadmin guys are in the process of bringing a new server online which will help to cope with this kind of traffic. This is hardware bought through donations to the OpenStreetMap foundation.

I wonder if you could help us out some more (here's what this "issue" is about) The application is crediting OpenStreetMap a little bit more than it was previously (before it was just crediting OpenHeatMap) but there's a little more that could be done here. To quote from the guidelines given here: http://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright

"
If you are using OpenStreetMap map images, we request that your credit reads at least “© OpenStreetMap contributors, CC-BY-SA”.
"

"
OpenStreetMap should be hyperlinked to http://www.openstreetmap.org/ and CC-BY-SA to http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/.
"
So you should at least follow those guidelines. A quick code change for someone (anyone!) I imagine. But beyond those legal requirements, any other ideas you might have for helping to convert all these lovely map viewers into map contributors would be much appreciated by the OpenStreetMap community.

Multiple iOS Devices

I have two - an iPad and an iPhone. iPhone tracker reports the iPad; any insight on how I can get it to see the iPhones data?

Tracker is showing places I have never been to

I just downloaded and ran the iPhoneTracker App. Here are two things of interest:

  1. I sync two iphones with my mac. The app only shows the map from the most recently synced iphone. Sync the other and a new map is shown. Not a problem, just an observation.
  2. This is puzzling. My iphone shows I have been many places that I have not been - places that are many miles away from where I was. On the 10th of February it shows my iphone travelling around Northern Australia to outback towns that I have never visited in my life. This is particularly bizarre as on that date I was in South Korea, with my iphone in my pocket. There are no records at all of my iphone in Korea or Japan, which is not surprising as I left the SIM locked while I was there - but why the little outback trip record???

Not loading with Chrome on 10.6.7

Hi Pete:

I heard about this at work which fascinates me of course. Unfortunately I cant seem to make it work. Here is what I did so far, perhaps you can let me know if I am missing something, thank you.

• I have my iphone 4 (Verizon) backed up on my macbook pro itunes.
• Downloaded your package
• Ran the index.html opening with google chrome
• See a map with a spinning loading wheel but at that point nothing happens, it just keep spinning.

So is there something that I am suppose to be doing that I have not understood?

Thank you for your suggestions.

Appreciated.

Jules
