Details

The App uses the PreviewCallback mechanism to grab the latest image from the preview frame. It then processes the YUV420SP data and pulls out all the red pixel values.

It uses data smoothing in a Integer array to figure out the average red pixel value in the image. Once it figures out the average it determines a heart beat when the average red pixel value in the latest image is greater than the smoothed average.

The App will collect data in ten second chunks and add the beats per minute to another Integer array which is used to smooth the beats per minute data.

How To

All you have to do is open the HeartRateMonitor App and then hold the tip of your index finger over the camera lens of your phone. The entire camera preview image should be red with a lighter area where the tip of your finger is touching. Do not press too hard or you will cut off circulation which will result in an inaccurate reading.

After a second or two, you should see the Android icon on the top of the screen start to flash red when it senses a heart beat. After ten seconds it will compute your heart rate and update the number next to the Android icon. It'll take between ten and thirty seconds to get an accurate heart rate.

android-heart-rate-monitor's Issues

Inaccurate results

I am getting inaccurate results when I take the readings 5 times back to back.. these are the following readings I am getting: 77, 59, 65, 65, 77

Has anyone faced this issue too? or is it just my pulses that are fluctuating? If the issue is real I would really like a solution as it's causing a bottleneck in my project.

Project doesn't work and can't find what's wrong

I realise this project is very old, but need it for my own project. I have been fixing quite a few errors with endless more errors, some which I don't know why it isn't working when it should've.

If anyone has an updated version of this, could you please help me out and link your repo?

I've been bugging my brains out the past few days trying to fix it.

how to hide surfaceview

i want to get data without showing camera preview and if i am setting visibility of surface view to gone then its i am receiving any data.
please help me

Parameters passing

In HeartRateMonitor.java.onPreviewFrame() method, seems like parameters are passed wrong. The height and width need to be swapped to match the implementation
