harmonimation's Introduction

First Contact

Hello! My name is Melody Griesen. I'm currently a Software Engineer at Genesys.

I'm currently not looking for work.

My resume can be found in this repository.

I'm currently very excited about a new music/programming passion project: Harmonimation, a program for rendering music harmonic analysis.

Interests

My main technical passions are microservices and process automation and organization (DevOps).

I also enjoy teaching and mentoring.

In my personal life, I enjoy:

  • arranging and performing music
  • watching and playing board games and Dungeons and Dragons
  • exploring programming projects and following others' programming content

Previous experience

Genesys - Software Engineer, February 2023 - Present

Genesys - Associate Software Engineer, May 2022 - February 2023

AWS Cloud, Microservices, process automation, documentation, feature/bug work

Genesys - Software Engineer Intern, Summer 2021

AWS Cloud, Data Pipeline ETL, Microservices, load performance analysis

NCSU - Peer Teaching Fellow, Jan 2020 - May 2022

Grading automation software, grading process documentation, reputation among students - "best TA I've ever had"

Current activities

As of Spring 2023, I'm currently:

  • Working full-time as a Software Engineer at Genesys
    • I've done a few collab projects with SRE and DevOps at this point
    • Soon I'll be owning some new feature work
    • Previously I've spent months cleaning up tech debt & streamlining team processes
  • Starting development on a passion project: Harmonimation, a program for rendering music harmonic analysis.
  • Mentoring a NCSU Senior Design team (MyDigitalHand v2.0)
    • Helping to implement Shibboleth/SAML authentication in a Dockerized environment
    • Technical advising to help the team find direction
    • Hoping to transition the application into an open-source tool for academia
  • Keeping up with some open-source projects, looking for time to contribute:
  • Continuing development on my passion project game, Gaberbocchus (in Godot)

Future plans

I intend to continue my career as a Software Engineer, applying creative and detail-oriented problem solving to complex challenges.

Other niche interests:

  • git
  • pattern matching / parsing / searching
  • data pipelines
  • security

My ideal long-term position would either be:

  • A DevOps engineer/consultant developing tools to simplify and accelerate the development process
  • A teaching professor educating students and developing solutions for large-scale course administration
