This course is a project-based approach to learning how to manipulate website layouts with the Bootstrap framework. Staff author Ray Villalobos tackles Bootstrap's layout classes, like containers, rows, and columns, and shows what it takes to customize Bootstrap's CSS and address layout challenges like multiple grids and columns. Plus, learn how to track navigation as users scroll, with the ScrollSpy plugin, and create a full-screen, responsive image carousel.

Instructions

This repository has branches for each of the videos in the course. You can use the branch pop up menu in github to switch to a specific branch and take a look at the course at that stage. Or you can simply add /tree/BRANCH_NAME to the URL to go to the branch you want to peek at.

Branches

The branches are structured so that they correspond to the videos in the course. So, for example if I name a branch 02_03b then that branch corresponds to the second chapter and the third video in that chapter. The extra letter at the end of the name corresponds to the state of the branch. A b means that this is how the code looks at the beginning of the video, an e means that is how the code looked at the end of the video.

You may find additional branches that correspond to other states, so for example, you may see a t, which means this is a target branch. A target branch is something I use during development or updates of a course and it's for a branch that I'm working towards. For the purposes of taking a course, you may ignore any additional branches. The master branch usually has the state of the project as I'm working through it and the final state of the code when I finish the course.

Installing

1. Make sure you have these installed
   • node.js
   • git
2. Clone this repository into your local machine using the terminal (mac) or Gitbash (PC) > git clone CLONEURL
3. CD to the folder cd FOLDERNAME
4. Run > npm install to install the project dependencies
5. Run > gulp to start live preview server

Issue after cloning project (tutorial)

I am doing the Up and Running with Git tutorial on Lydia.com. When I cloned angulardata everything went fine. When I cloned this project, I can not get the project to run correctly. I have done it 4 times with the same result. I have attached a file of what the project looks like every time, and a file of my terminal for you to check out.
The only issue I see is "HTML Warning: Failed to run validation on index.html"

Hi,
I am not able to start the gulp server, it seems like it is trying to connect to validator.w3.org as I am behing corporate proxy. it is not able to connect.

can I disable this validation?

Package.json dependency ("gulp": "^3.8.8") doesn't work with current versions of Node.js

As instructed in your (Ray Villalobos's) LinkedInLearning's Learning Git and GitHub course, I cloned this repo, did an npm install, and tried running gulp.

However, running gulp gave a
ReferenceError: primordials is not defined
error, because the pinned-to version of gulp
"gulp": "^3.8.8" [which means 3.8.8 <= gulp < 4.0.0]
is no longer supported in node.js. Gulp 3.x requires node.js < 12, and I'm running node.js 14 (the current LTS version of node.js].

Someone helped me workaround this problem using yarn, by following the instructions at How to fix ReferenceError: primordials is not defined in node

I shared this workaround with someone else who reported the same problem in the Q&A section of the Learning Git and GitHub course.

So that other learners don't experience this same problem, could the package.json be updated so that it works "out-of-the-box" with current vesions of node.js?

line 87 col 3 Missing "Use Strict" Statement

The file path that my terminal is referencing the error is

builds/development/js/myscript.js

I opened the file and it looks like "Use Strict" is at the top of the page right where it needs to be but for some reason, it's not registering and throwing this error.

It's also saying that the error is on the last line in the last column...odd.
