talks's Issues

Improve colours

The colours used for the nodes do ot have enough contrast to be easily readable.
Replacing the colours with higher contrast ones should fix this.

Add usage scenario's to node.js talk

Add a slide to the node.js - n00b talk, outlining for which usage scenarios node.js is good match (and when it isn't).

The points noted in http://www.toptal.com/nodejs/why-the-hell-would-i-use-node-js are a good overview (and should be linked to from the slides):

examples of where node.js should be used

  • Chat
  • API on top of an object DB
  • Queued inputs
  • Data streaming
  • Proxy
  • Application/System monitoring dashboard

examples of where node.js should not be used

  • Server-side web application w/ a relational db behind
  • Heavy server-side computation/processing

Add version numbers to talks

Currently there is no way to make a distinction between various versions of a talk.
How to know if you have the new and improved version?

This can be resolved by adding a version number to the start sheet, this would also be useful for generated PDF version. (Especially as those tend to end up on slideshare, etc).

Using semver/git tags would be nice but then each talk would need a separate repo... Is that desirable?

Action Required: Fix Renovate Configuration

There is an error with this repository's Renovate configuration that needs to be fixed. As a precaution, Renovate will stop PRs until it is resolved.

Error type: Cannot find preset's package (github>whitesource/merge-confidence:beta)

AllWorkAndNoPlay is missing links.

The end nodes that should link to the pages do not have any URLs. I'm guessing I added the links locally but did not commit or push them.

Will fix this when I get home.

CSS issues in node.js n00b talk

Several slides do not scale well in certain formats, notably:

  • the browser screenshot(s) gets cut off
  • the URL on the "me" page falls outside the screen
  • the NPM screenshot gets cropped in 16:9 ratio's
