GitHub Email Extractor

Browser extension to display email ID of any GitHub user (even if it isn't public on their GitHub profile by getting information from GitHub user's commits, owned repository commit activity)

Manual installation

Due to a takedown from the Chrome Store you can only install this extension manually.

• Clone the repo somewhere: git clone https://github.com/prabhakar267/github-email-extractor.git
• Open: chrome://extensions
• (Activate developer mode in top right corner, if turned off)
• Click Load unpacked button in top left corner
• Select the src directory of this repo (which you cloned to your local system in step 1)

How it works

• Makes an API call to github-email-extractor server with the GitHub username.
• Server checks if there's an email ID for given username, else it parses all the GitHub acitvity for the user to get the email address.

Remove Chrome Store link and add local setup instructions

The URL returns a 404.

Store response in local browser storage

Making an API call to get the email for a user you frequently visit is not optimum, instead the response should be stored in some local browser storage to be consumed again and again.

Remove jquery

Currently jQuery is being used just to add html to a specific div, which can be done by vanilla JavaScript.
Removing jQuery will reduce the extension size.

Ignore "users.noreply.github.com" email ID

If user makes some changes on GitHub UI, then the email address would be users.noreply.github.com, which should not be shown to the user.
