I chose Flutter because we were also considering a switch to Flutter. However, I don't know Flutter or Dart from a bar of soap, so there was some work to be done.

First I had to learn how to create a Flutter app, and then how to shoehorn the widgets ChatGPT had given to me into the flutter create app (FCrApp?) I was left with.

As can be seen above, I found that when I managed to get ChatGPT to actually write me some code, it would error out if it tried to write too much.

I got around this by eliciting an overall structure, and then asking for more detail on the relevant widgets. This made the process more laborious, but it was better than giving up. It also meant more effort to splice the code I was given into the app.

My IDE's linter really didn't like ChatGPT's code quality, so there was some tidy up to do there too.

After adding a few widgets I found that ChatGPT had assumed an infinitely long phone, since it had not factored scrolling into the app. That saw me needing to find out how to add scrolling to a Flutter app.

The completed app had notifications at the bottom of a scroll down the screen, which really didn't make sense to me. I moved it up the order so that they appear on the screen on app startup, before any scrolling takes place.

As an Innovation Assistant?

On reimagining digital banking: yawn. Which is hardly surprising, given that LLMs are essentially a regurgitation of what other people have already published on the internet.

As a Prototyping Tool?

I'm a big fan of circumventing hours of meetings around slide decks with code. I prefer to go ahead and build something, anything, I can put on a table that we can stand around and poke a stick at. So this approach speaks to me. Despite not being familiar with Flutter, I had an app running on my phone in a couple of hours.

However, one could argue that this approach is just a difficult to use Figma. If you work in an enterprise with an army of Figma wielding designers, prototyping with ChatGPT brings nothing. However, if you're small enough to be going straigt to code, it may be a different story. If you're a startup, maybe you'd slap Firebase on the back of it and call it MVP. Oh no, that voice in the back of my head just said, 'Hey...'
