Change Recent Scan look

Is it possible to change the recent scan look:

Instead of having two rows just have one long row with about 6 or 7 books and then have arrow buttons on both sides, pressing the arrow buttons reveals more books. the books keeps moving right/left or visa versa.

Change text on Home Page

Remove the following text:
"Sikh Canadian Archive" and Change the header text to Sikh National Archives of Canada

Account Sign Up

All users want to use the website to read books should sign up or create an account. They should be able to signup using Facebook, Twitter, Google or other social sites or able to create a simple local login account. All accounts should be verified.

Here is a script that works with Django in order to for this functionality to work.

Social Media Sharing Feature: basically user is reading a book and they want others to know about it, they just click on the facebook/twitter button and they can share that particular item

SNAC Reader Link

On the book reader page the link where it says SNAC Reader on the top left hand corner, that should be the name of the book the user is reading and if the user clicks on it, it should take the user back to the book details page or if it was opened directly from the search results using the "read now" button it should take the user back to the search results page. So basically its just a back click button.

Add SNAC Logo to Home Page

Book Reader needs to open in double page mode

Right now the book reader opens up in single page mode it should open up in double page mode. It would be nice is it can detect what device it is being accessed at, if it is a computer its better if it opens up in double page made, but if someone is using a mobile device it should open up in a single page mode. But I am not sure how complex that would be so I will leave it to you you decide.

E-Book upload Button: this will allow admin to attach a ebook to the book catalogue and allow for easy uploading of e-books

Add catalogue content search

Add front end search that operates over the book meta data.

Add seach inside book feature to the book reader.

Need to add a search inside book feature to the book reader to be able to search any keyword inside a scanned book. Try to use https://code.google.com/p/tesseract-ocr/ as this is open source OCR.

Add a carousel to the home page

we still need to add a carousel to the homepage, I have sent you few pictures earlier for you to add to it.

Add recent blog entries to right hand column

Read Button

Read Button should show up on the search result page and the book details page and also on the home page when the user hovers the mouse over the book cover image, a "Read" button and "Info" button should show up and if the user clicks on the "Read" button it should open the book reader otherwise if clicked on "info" button should take the user to the book details page. Only a registered user should be able to use the "Read" button, if an unregistered user tries to read the book it should take the user to the user registration page.

Add unscanned books and data

This requires an ORM replacement for the current metadata scan OR adding the folders for each input book. The latter is interesting because it would put them in place ready for adding the scanned content but we are probably going to have to go to a relational table at some point.

Auto Search for form Field while adding new books to the database

May be I am not using the right term but I hope the explanation make it clear. As a user or admin adds new books to the catalogue, the book data field should have an auto search feature. If a book already exist in the database it should show up as the user types the name of the book, allowing the user not to add the same book twice. When adding author or other fields for a books this feature will help speed up the process by eliminating tying as the name will show up if it exist in the database, then the user can just click on it to add it.

And in case if the title already exists in the database then there should be a way to easily open that title and just edit it to update additional copies to the same title.

One way of achieving this would be to have edit button or link appear in front of the entry they appear in under the field as you type.

Default Book Reader Start Page

Each scanned book has a scandata.xml file which includes data regarding pages, the page that is marked as the book cover, thats the page where the book should open in the book reader. Right now its going to the very first scanned image.

Show book metadata rather than going directly to the reader

Present this meta data when the book is selected and allow reading by clicking a button on the meta data page.

Set up Cover page capability

Every book must have a 'cover page'. This can be any supplied but will also be picked up automatically from the scan pages if available and not supplied

Reviews feature: This feature will allow the user to write a review about an item and also rate the item as they please, but only people how are logged in should be able to write a review.

Create a Newspaper Viewer for the website

so I will only have to upload a scanned image of the newspaper to the site and the rest of the process, such as clipping each news item in the viewer and if you click on the clipping it will automatically show that particular item

if you hover your mouse over it it shows a selection for the news item
and if you click on it it opens that news item from the paper

Allow addition of books before they are scanned

This screen comes after you click on the Add Button and lets you add additional information to the record and also allows you to add book cover images.

Let a book get added as an initial folder with supplied meta data.

Provide a form for this purpose that is just accessible to staff.

Report Problem Button: if theres a problem with an item such as a miss spelling, wrong cover or some other problem. User just clicks on that button and it flags that item and then the admin can fix it accordingly

Add Search capability to be main search to be able to search inside the whole collection

The main search feature should be able to search for a term inside the books and display pages where that term appears and then the user clicks on the link and the book opens that particular page with the term highlighted.

Where are the bookcovers?

The book information on the server does not appear to have any information on or book cover images. I assume that the covers were scanned with the books so they must be stored somewhere.
