Thank you for your reply. This works now like a cake. The mistake was a local one and nothing to do with the code. My ubuntu was on VM and was not taking the wifi ip correctly. Once I added a wifi dongle and mapped that ip it worked. Are you planning a SLAM or Mapping on this repo at a later point of time ? Well done again and this issue can be closed.

I'm glad you could fix it.
No, I'm not planning SLAM or Mapping. Since I wrote this code, I've upgraded the car with mecanum wheels (https://github.com/Reinbert/ros_mecanum_robot) and there is no more space left to add rotary encoders to the wheels. I'm trying to get the video from an ESP32-cam working though.
