cannot find config file

I have a pi zero 1 and case 2w
I installed recalbox-rpi1.img.xz
I started it up, let it initialize. it had the weird screen layout where it's rotated 90deg and really small in the top left
Then i turned it off, put the SD card in my PC, and looked for the config.txt

it's not there

some other threads mention that the file is actually called recalbox-user-config.text but that also does not exist.

Where is this file supposed to be? I tried creating one in the root of the "SHARE" partition and it didn't work.

dpi24.dtbo overwritten by apt upgrade

The patched file dpi24.dtbois overwritten by package upgrades. This file should be renamed to an unused object, e.g. dpi24-gpi.dtbo, and the config file should be updated to reflect this.

Recalbox 9.1 with Zero 1.1W

Its use is impossible or it seems that something rewrites it.
It only works the first time you start it.
Can anything be done or should I return it?

Any guide or working image?

Black screen with gpicase2w_recalbox_zero2_8.1.1. txt

Boot up after changing lines in config.txt with the lines in gpicase2w_recalbox_zero2_8.1.1. txt results to a black screen.
Without that patch everything is working fine except the tiny and rotated screen.

Hardware: GPi Case 2W and RPi Zero 2W

Install the image to the SD card
Install the sd card to gpicase2w and start up for initialization
Connect the SD card to the computer using the card reader
Replace the contents of the (gpicase2w_recalbox_zero2_8.1.1. txt) file in github with the contents of the (recalbox user config. txt) file in the sd card directory"

Tried all of these and this ends up breaking my display - I get a black screen after replacing the config.txt with the txt that is provided - so basically the display is broken as of now.
