silently fails when push is refused by remote

Steps to reproduce:

Create a repo with a file >1GB
Push to GitHub (which has hard quota of 1GB).

Linux git client:

git push origin master
Counting objects: 6, done.
Delta compression using up to 4 threads.
Compressing objects: 100% (5/5), done.
kex protocol error: type 7 seq 16562 MiB | 644.00 KiB/s   
kex protocol error: type 7 seq 3305iB | 643.00 KiB/s   
Writing objects: 100% (6/6), 2.00 GiB | 706.00 KiB/s, done.

remote: fatal: pack exceeds maximum allowed size
error: unpack failed: index-pack abnormal exit

gitfetch:

Git.push(path, url, token)
=> nil

I expect an error being raised

Git.mirror should throw exception when remote responds with Internal Server Error

Git.mirror:
=> nil

git cli client:

Cloning into 'bar'...
remote: Internal Server Error.
remote:
fatal: unable to access 'https://github.com/foo/bar.git/': The requested URL returned error: 500

Rename remote when receiving 30x

Rename to git_igitt

silently fails when pushing large repositories

Push backhub/restores-test-many-small to GitHub silently fails. The repo contains 126 files of 17M size (total 2GB).

Using git command line client works
