NewForest Route V3

Scenario

New Forest features the Bournemouth UK railway line in the 1950s and attempts to recreate the 1950s network timetable using the Timetable Mode in Open Rails. V3 extends from Basingstoke to Weymouth and current work on V4 expands from Woking to Salisbury. Expect much incomplete scenery. Today the Route is known as the SouthWestern mainline.

The route is a work in progress and some non-fatal errors exist, which will gradually be reduced. Some errors are an MSTS legacy, and must be tolerated. Recent expansion covers Woking- Salisbury and much incomplete scenery is to be expected in these areas

Compatibility

This content is compatible with Open Rails v1.5, 1.4 (and not with MSTS). The content is stand-alone and only needs an Open Rails installation. Recent unstable versions of open rails recommended or the ORNYMG branch. Keep separate from any existing MSTS install The New Forest route is demanding of computer reources. Use 64bit if available.

Installing

Highly Recommended: Follow these instructions to benefit from using Git. Warning. the Route is nearly 20Gb on disk. The photo real ground textures, and the full trainset explain the large size, but I believe users will agree the benefits. Do not use the zip: The large route size will result in an incomplete download . Best to download or clone via Github desktop. You will also then get the frequent updates Point open rails at where ever you downloaded the route. Options/content/ installation profile/ add

The route is freeware, but uses rolling stock provided by others. New Forest Route is the copyright of Rick Loader. Rolling stock copyrights remain with their authors, and they have my thanks.

Linked Junction signals clear together

Recently an anomaly appears where some linked junction signals show both arms clear instead of just 1.
Deleting and replacing signals does not cure.
Currently under investigation, and an opportunity to revise signal scripts
Does not affect running of timetabled trains.

Evercreech Junction

I have found at problem with file Watersnake.tdb at the Everscreech Junction. Junction nodes 8766 and 8775 have the outgoing pins (1 and 2) connected to VectorNodes, but in both cases pin '0' is connected to non-existent track section '0'.

On investigation, the two nodes together represent a back to back junction. As I understand it all junction and end nodes should be joined only to vector nodes - possibly of zero length. I have got around the problem by treating the missing section as an end-of-line node - I presume that OpenRails does the same.

I checked for similar problems elsewhere and found that TrackNode 2819 is similar. However it is a TrEndNode and is not referred to by any other nodes.

I have not tried to edit the file and submit a patch as I would have to guess the format of the correct zero length node. I presume other contributors have the software to do this correctly

On looking around Everscreech, there is also some disconnected track made up of nodes 8705, 8706 and 8707.

Latest release defaults to the intial release state (8 April)

Latest release defaults to the initial release state (8 April) and not the current state of the repository.
The danger is that this will create 2 types of user

1. those with the outdated 8 April content who have downloaded via "latest release" or .zip
2. those with GitHub desktop who receive auto updates to the latest update

Until this is fixed, please be aware that outdated downloads may cause problems, and installing GitHub desktop is recommended

Sorry, I've screwed up. I found that I did not have permissions to push from my PC directly to your github New Forest Route, but I could use the 'Add file' tab on your main page. This appeared to work but on checking I found that this has placed all the changed files in your top level directory - and I cannot find a way to revert the commit.

I hope you can sort it out! D.

TDB - some Station Names are broken

in Watersnake.tdb, there are many station names broken with many hundred empty lines

probably not an issue in normal operations, but breaks tools like TrackViewer and others. Attached is a fixed version, apologize but I'm not cloning a 6GB repository to fix a single file....

Missing Track Section

I believe I have the most recent editions of Xtracks and Ytracks, but I wonder if I installed them correctly for ORTS.
