Custom font not rendered when Widget configured for horizontal scrolling

How to recreate

  • Configure the Widget to use horizontal scrolling by choosing "Scroll" from Transition setting and "Left" from Direction setting
  • Apply a custom font to be used for Title, Description, Author, or Timestamp

What happens
The custom font is not rendered, a fallback font is applied instead

What should happen
The custom font is applied

Notes
Custom font is applied correctly for any other Transition state

When a feed has more than 25 stories, only 25 will be shown, regardless of Max Items in Queue

How it works now:

  1. Add an RSS Feed to your Presentation that has more than 25 items in it.
  2. Notice that regardless of what you set the Max Items in Queue amount to, it will only show 25 stories in the RSS feed, and then start again at the beginning.

This Presentation has RSS feeds in both left and right Placeholders, both set for different values, and both showing RSS feeds that have more than 25 items. Notice how they both only show 25 items.

How it should work
The RSS Widget should show as many stories as are entered in the Max Items in Queue before restarting.

RSS Widget Displaying Incorrect Font

This issue was initially brought up here.

I have replicated his Presentation here: https://apps.risevision.com/editor/workspace/6e22eb84-75d1-42e5-8487-2cbf95a6db68/?cid=4f9e46e5-5e54-40d9-89f1-7559d7068721

Darius states the Presentation is supposed to use the Google Roboto font, but is being rendered as Helvetica or Arial. When I duplicated the Presentation, I was not able to use the control shift period command in the Dev console with success in determining what font was being rendered on the actual display. However, when I previewed the Presentation in my browser, it is showing as Helvetica.

I have attached some images and a doc showing the differences.

This page: http://theunderstatement.com/post/11645166791/roboto-vs-helvetica shows the difference between the two fonts.

Hi,
When to try to run the widget using "widget preview" tool, i'm gettting javascript error preventing the "widget" to load. I'm able to load "settings.html" but none of layout files (layout-1x2.html etc.,) are getting loaded.

Please suggest.

Descriptions with more than 211 characters won't display when scrolling left.

What's happening?
When an RSS widget is configured to scroll left and showing either full description or a description snippet of more than 211, stories with more than 211 characters will not display at all.

What should be happening?
When an RSS widget is configured to scroll left and show a full description, stories of any size should display.

How to recreate

  1. Add a Presentation with an RSS Widget placeholder
  2. Set the presentation to the Scroll transition in the left direction
  3. Add an RSS feed where most of the stories contain a lot of characters (https://www.nasa.gov/rss/dyn/breaking_news.rss)
  4. Select show full description, or show description snippet and input 212 characters.

Additional information
Community thread: https://community.risevision.com/rise_vision_inc/topics/rss-not-loading-properly
Presentation prepared: http://preview.risevision.com/?type=presentation&id=19fc763c-5ffa-48e5-aad8-6c8c488697b6

This Presentation has an RSS Widget setup to display 211 characters, another placeholder setup to display 212 characters, and one final placeholder setup to show the full description. As you can see, only the widget setup for 211 characters is displaying content.

RSS Widget: Separator adds a trailing Separator

What is the expected behavior?

Setting a nonzero value for Separator adds a Separator the specified number of pixels in size in between RSS stories.

What is the actual behavior?

Setting a nonzero value for Separator adds a Separator the specified number of pixels in size after every RSS story.

What steps can be taken to replicate the problem?

  1. Create a small placeholder in a presentation over a white background.
  2. Run an RSS widget, I used this feed when testing. http://feeds.reuters.com/news/artsculture
  3. Set Stories to 2 per page, some larger number (I used 10) in all.
  4. Set Separator to some large value, like 50px.
  5. You should see based on the change in color where the separator is that a separator is added after each story, rather than between the stories.

In particular, this causes weird behavior with image scaling. See the two linked presentations.

RSS does not load in RSS Widget

How to recreate
Add the RSS Widget (use the user's link) in the new Editor or RVA. See this presentation.

What happens
'Please wait while your feed is loaded message'.
The RSS feed does not appear in the RSS Widget when added in the new Editor or in RVA. This error appears in the Developer Console:

screen shot 2016-03-14 at 1 06 17 pm

What should happen
The RSS feed to appear.

Notes
The RSS appears when using the RSS Gadget. To compare use this presentation.

RSS Widget not displaying full feed

What is the expected behavior?

The RSS widget should display all of the items from the RSS feed.

What is the actual behavior?

The RSS widget doesn't display all of the data from certain RSS feeds such as this one: https://lcu.edu/tvs/php/menu.php?period=Lunch

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Add the above RSS feed to an RSS widget and Save + Publish the presentation.
  2. Preview or schedule the Presentation to a Display and you'll see that not all of the data from the feed is showing.

RSS-Widget not working in android

Alan gave me a copy of the RSS feed so i can figure out the issue with it not running on Android. From what i can tell, there is something in the widget.js and jquery 2.2.0 that isn't working correctly. So here is what i have done. I downloaded the uncompressed version of 2.2.0 jquery and put it in the JS folder of the widget. http://scottsdigitalsignage.com/widget/RSS/1.0.0/dist/js/jquery.js
Then I ran the widget in a blank presentation. I get an error code on line 2404 in jquery stating length is undefined. From there, i tried to figure out why the widget was using that particular function that has line 2404. I couldn't find anything. It's hard to figure out and i was wondering If a developer could help work on this issue.
Thanks
Scott

If the Feed parser cannot access the RSS feed, no error is reported in the Widget settings

What is the expected behavior?

If the feed cannot be accessed or displayed, the error should be displayed in the Widget Settings.

What is the actual behavior?

Nothing appears in the Widget settings to indicate why the RSS feed will not show, and nothing shows in the Presentation

What steps can be taken to replicate the problem?

  1. Add either of the following feeds to a Presentation with the RSS Widget:
  1. Notice that no errors show in the Widget Settings.
  2. Save and Preview the Presentation, notice that nothing shows in the Presentation.

The feeds both validate, but cannot be accessed by the parser:
2018-08-08_11-24-16

Since the feed is valid, it may be worthwhile to have the error show that our Feed Parser cannot access the feed, or something similar, so the user knows what to do to correct.

Wrong Feed is showing in Placeholder

How it works now:
This issue is similar to #71

In this Presentation, notice that the RSS feed in Placeholder A is not correct. Instead of showing the RSS Feed in Placeholder A, it is showing the RSS Feed from Placeholder B.

How it should work:
The RSS Feed assigned to Placeholder A should show in Placeholder A

This is a test issue.

Steps to recreate

  1. Do this
  2. Then that
  3. Then this

What happens
Bad things

What should happen
Rainbows and ponies.

Widget not showing images

What's happening?
On some feeds (at least one example) the images are not displaying correctly.

How to recreate

  1. Created a RSS widget and used the url http://feeds.feedburner.com/foxnews/latest
  2. Tried all layout options
  3. The feed was not showing images (screenshot attached)

RSS Widget parses HTML in the description tag but not the content tag

How it works now
As mentioned in this forum discussion, notice that feeds that have a description tag that have a short preview are ignored in favor of the tag. But when using the tag for the feed content, the HTML is not parsed by the RSS widget causing issues with line breaks and other formatting issues. The HTML contents of the tag should be parsed the same as the tag is in the news feed.

Feeds to test with:
"News" feed that has content in tag: https://www.jdsalaw.com/news/?format=rss

"Seminars" feed that has content in tag: https://www.jdsalaw.com/seminars/?format=rss

Page Transition ignores the "Show Each Item for" setting.

How it works now:

  1. Add the RSS Widget to your Presentation, use any RSS Feed, for example: http://rss.cnn.com/rss/edition.rss.
  2. Set the Transition to Page, and the "Show Each Item for" setting to 3 seconds.
  3. Preview the Presentation, or play on a Display. Notice that the Widget shows for roughly 10 seconds before moving to the next item.

For further clarification: https://goo.gl/GiVtRw

How it should work:
Regardless of the transition, the item should show for the set duration in the "Show Each Item for" setting.

RSS widget show feed errors on displays

What is the expected behavior from the user’s point of view?

When an invalid or not found RSS feed is retrieved, the RSS widget is skipped, moving to the next item or left transparent if it is the only item in a playlist.
For greater certainty, I don't see an error message on my display.

What is the actual behavior from the user’s point of view?

When an invalid or not found RSS feed is retrieved, an error message is displayed on the presentation
Screen Shot 2021-08-19 at 4 33 20 PM

What steps can be taken to reproduce the actual behavior?

Create a new presentation with a RSS widget, add an invalid RSS url and play on a display.

When Widget is set to horizontal scrolling it will show blank if the Max Items in Queue is over a certain amount.

How it works now:

  1. Add the http://rss.cnn.com/rss/cnn_topstories.rss rss feed to the Widget, set it to Scroll Left, and set 15 items in Max Items in Queue. Notice that nothing shows in the Widget in Editor or on the Display.
  2. Change the Transition to any other option, and the feed shows.

For further clarification: https://goo.gl/LdJlmn

How it should work:
Regardless of the amount of Max Items in Queue, the content should show in Editor and in the Presentation on a Display.

Incorrect message displayed when feed has no items

How it works now
Using this RSS Feed, notice that the Widget sits on ""please wait while your feed is loaded" instead of saying the feed is empty and moving to the next item in the Playlist.

How it should work
Since this is an empty feed, it should state that, and move to the next Playlist item.

RSS Widget show &amp instead of just &

How it works now:
The RSS feed http://feeds.bbci.co.uk/news/rss.xml is showing "&amp" instead of "&" on the news that contain that character. Right now the 3rd news entry on the RSS has that symbol.

How it should work:
It should just display "&" instead of "&amp"

RSS feed crashes with more than 115 characters on Length of Description Snippet option

The user adds a rss feed to the bottom of this presentation

The user have the "show description snippet" option selected on the data selection submenu
They have 115 characters on Length of Description Snippet and the feed works on the editor, preview and display
they change to more than 115 characters and the feed stops working on editor, preview and display

Tooltip cut off in widget settings for scroll

What is the expected behavior?

When a user opens the tooltip for the PUD Failover, all text is visible

What is the actual behavior?

The tooltip text is cut off by the iframe border:
PUD Failover tooltip popup cut off

What steps can be taken to replicate the problem?

Open the widget settings in desktop, select Scroll in the transition dropdown, and open the tooltip by clicking on the ? icon
