surface vs facs

Why defines the customization a surface attribute, when actually facs has been designed for this purpose?

The AttConverter should accept empty strings without complaining and just return none values.
This would make code handling easier as you don't have to check every time if a passed string is empty just to prevent a warning message.

Make MEI BOOLEAN real boolean

Would it be possible to set BOOLEAN_NONE to -1 and then have BOOLEAN_false as 0? Then it would be possible to treat it as real boolean with 0/1 False/True.

Reading/writing numerical values

All cases where we have integer or decimal attribute values are treated as empty with value "0". That makes it impossible to explicitly set encoded values to zero in Verovio (e.g. beam@slope).
