multisoundchanger's Introduction

MultiSound Changer for MacOS

Latest release https://github.com/rlxone/MultiSoundChanger/releases

A small tool for changing sound volume even for aggregate devices cause native sound volume controller can't change volume of aggregate devices (it was always pain in the ass with my laptop).

Features:

  • Changing sound volume of every device (even virtual aggregate device volume by changing volume of every device in aggregate device)
  • Changing default output device
  • Native appearance (looks like native volume controller)
  • Media keys support

I think it can be very useful if you're using VoodooHDA with 4.0+ sound on the board (my use case), but you can find another use cases.

Usage

For example if you want to play 2 or more output devices at the same time you should:

  • Create aggregate device in Audio MIDI Setup
  • Add all output devices you want to this new aggregate device
  • Hide default sound controller icon if enabled (by dragging away or in audio preferences)
  • Use our app to control sound volume
  • Add our app to startup (if you need)

multisoundchanger's Issues

Volume keys stop working after sleep

After I put my Mac to sleep with hot corners (Monterrey macOS 12) the volume keys on my keyboard no longer adjust the volume.

If I quit and reopen, volume keys work as expected

This issue is not present in Ventura (macOS 13)

(Also, just wanted to say that I love this app! I just got a second display with built-in speakers and now I can play music from both displays and it sounds so good.)

Keyboard control lost when outputs are changed

This is a terrific app. I've noticed that if you change audio output outside of the app itself, the keyboard controls no longer bind to MultiSoundChanger.
Is there any way to detect an output change event, and then rebind the keyboard controls?

[bug] Problems setting volume

This does not work for me: if I try to change the volume either in the app o from the keyboard the overall volume on the master stream in Audio MIDI goes to 0.

This makes the whole setup useless: it is true that know the volume controls work again in principle, but I can't do anything with them but go to mute.

Cannot "Open Anyway" as exception

I've attempted to run the application through the exception in the Security panel in Preferences but I don't get the option to open anyways and get pointed to the Finder. I've attempted the Control + click avenue with no success either.

Changing only one device in aggregate

I'm using SoundFlower with this, and I want the volume set for SoundFlower to be always be at max. If it's not, then recordings get really quiet. In other words, I only want changes to volume to affect the other output device in the aggregate device and not SoundFlower. Is there a way to do this? If not, I think it's a good idea to add this as an option, maybe by only changing the master device's volume in AudioManager.swift if the option is set.

how can I listen to headphone plug in event?

I cloned your code and find that before/after I plug in the headphone, the deviceID of Audio.getOutputDevices() is the same. How can I distinguish built-in audio and headphone? Thank you very much.

Preferences pane in System Preferences

Create a preferences pane in the System Preferences.

The main purpose of creating preferences pane in system preferences insead of default app settings is this request

Possible pane options:

  1. Open at system startup
  2. Allow notifications from #11
  3. Classic/New style select option #13
  4. Show or hide from menu bar

Device Order + Visibility + Input Devices

Hey rlxone

This is a triple question / request:

- Device Order: It would be great to be able to order devices manually, or at least have them be alphabetically ordered. I'm not sure what the current logic is, but when you have a lot of devices it becomes an absolute mess.

- Visibility: Along with being able to reorder devices, being able to toggle their visibility on and off would be fantastic. This has been a long-time request from MacOS users, with no workarounds that I know off.

- Input Devices: Currently with the native MacOS Menubar Sound, you can OPT click it to see Input Devices alongside Outputs. It would be great to have this functionality as well so that MultiSoundChanger can be a full replacement for the native menubar audio control.

Let me know your thoughts.

Many thanks.

Doesn't recognize new output device

  1. With External headphones or bluetooth device disconnected Start MultiSoundChanger
  2. Plug in external headphones or connect bluetooth device
  3. Notice that MultiSoundChanger does NOT include connected device.

EDIT:
This seems to be resolved in an OPEN PR #10

HDMI volume

Andrew Chernyshov asked to implement HDMI sound volume change.

Per app sound control

This is a great app, one thing that would make it even better is if there was a way to add an option to toggle sound on a per app basis.
