Use SearchView

I’m glad to see you have used TextView.OnEditorActionListener! But only to let you know, there’s a component in the support library that is intend to implement a search input. It’s called SearchView and you may consider learning more about it here.

If you want to implement this in future projects, you will only have to declare an instance in your XML as follows:

<android.support.v7.widget.SearchView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:inputType="text"
app:iconifiedByDefault="false"
app:queryHint="@string/query_hint_artist"
android:id="@+id/search_artist"/>
And create an OnQueryTextListener in your code:

searchView.setOnQueryTextListener(
new SearchView.OnQueryTextListener() {
@OverRide
public boolean onQueryTextSubmit(String query) {
// Start searching on submit
// ...
return true;
}
@OverRide
public boolean onQueryTextChange(String newText) {
return false;
