50 percent, that's half of it. Women make up roughly half of the world's population. But they rarely make up half the participant on discussion panels, on the microphone, in talk show or conferences. "50 Prozent" documents, how many women* there are.

fiftypercent's Introduction

Ruby Monsters

This is a "meta" project to document all things Ruby Monsters. It's mostly here so we have a central place to ask questions, just use the issue tracker like a forum.

We can use the actual Git repository to store interesting bits of information.

fiftypercent's Issues

Redesign

We would like to have a new design for our website.

ideas:

  • make it more obvious that people have to participate to make the side working by adding events themselves
  • maybe use of some design elements of speakerinnen.org to have a brand recognition
  • rethink the tagcloud ( it does not really make sense now, there are too many tags right now )
  • don't use the colors red and blue any more for showing the man or women percentage ( https://blog.datawrapper.de/gendercolor/ )

How to fill dev setup with content?

After following the setup instructions, my local instance looks like this – without entries and missing text content in the sidebar:
Dev setup

Production site for comparison:
Production site

Also, there’s a log in form where I’m not sure what to put in:
Dev setup log in

Any pointers what to do to fill it with content @tyranja? :) Would be cool if it’s just fillable with the production data, and I guess we’re missing something. cc @alicetragedy

Move donut charts from JS library to simpler SVG

Currently the donut chart display is a quite complicated JS library used for just that one visualization. There’s also some pitfalls like the font being baked-in Arial etc.

What might be nicer is to just do it via SVG:

Then we would likely also have a much easier time making it look like designed at #36 with the logo worked into it. :)

Further sorting improvements

To improve the sorting more, we could sort more like event platforms do:

  • First a section "Upcoming events" which would show the next one on top and going down into the future.
  • Then below that a section for "Past events" listing by most recent up top.
