My first (and only) foray into Rails. This was during my pre-Uber days, while trying to garner a bit of traffic to www.workingpoint.com.

SEO Link Alerts

If sites are reviewing and linking to the products of your competitors, they'll probably review and link to you too.

• Set up a Google Alert for each of your competitors, and add the RSS feed to SEO Link Alerts.
• It'll scrape the pages that triggered the alert, looking for legit (e.g. no rel=nofollow links and some other criteria) and organize the good ones for you to take action on.

We had excellent success getting links by just reaching out to sites surfaced by this tool, and asking them to consider reviewing our product, a web-based accounting app for small businesses.

Rel attributes with "nofollow" plus additional values are getting through

For example, anchors with rel="me nofollow" should not be allowed through.

Alerts are sometimes firing on competitor domains

Needs to be researched.

Quick means to delete many or all alerts

Delete all link would be an easy way to start.

Ignore certain domains

Should be an application-wide setting and a user setting.

Candidates for the application-wide setting:

craigslist.com
twitter.com
topsy.com
xmarks.com
tweetmeme.com

Pagination

Will be necessary as alert lists get too long.

Open URI Exception handling

Need to catch certain (i.e. 404) Open URI exceptions so jobs don't stay in the DJ queue.

Update Google Alert feed titles when parsed

Presently, they're set only upon create.

alerts are falsely triggered if domain.com is in the URL path (but not the actual domain)

Auto-delete alerts w/ mozRank below threshold

User option. Default should be in the 3-4 range.
