Leaf Browser Alpha

This project is an experimental browser UI that runs as a Google Chrome app and uses webview tags. It's in its very early stages at the moment.

Key Features

  • A tree structure for managing your tabs (that you can choose to hide).
  • No distinction between bookmarks and tabs.
  • Ability to rename tabs.
  • Ability to "pin" tabs to prevent accidentally navigating away / closing.
  • Not all tabs need to be loaded at once (they are loaded when you want them to be, and marked with a tick. You can also unload tabs to free up memory without fully closing them).
  • Ability to colour-code tabs.

Immidiate TODOs

  • Allow closing of tabs with subtabs (pick between close / keep children)

  • Settings Screen.
  • Ability to move tabs around.
  • Touch-Screen friendly interactivity for managing tabs.

  • Syncing tabs accross computers.
  • Plugin architecture.

Installation

You can install from the chrome web store.

Avaliable from the Chrome webstore

You can also install it like so:

  1. Make sure you have Google Chrome or Chromium installed.
  2. Install npm and grunt.
  3. Checkout this repository.
  4. run npm install && grunt
  5. In Chrome / Chromium, visit chrome://extensions/, enable "Developer Mode", Press "Load Unpacked Extension...", and select the directory checked out this repository.

You can now launch the app by visiting your Apps page (left hand side of the bookmarks bar, or visit chrome://apps/), and selecting "Leaf Browser"

Contribution

Contributions / PRs are of course welcome, but you need to be happy that your code will be released under any license I fancy, as project owner.

How to get it to work on PC?

Hi, When you go to his link it works on pc and chromebook. When I try to upload the files it only works on chromebook? How can I get it to work on both?

Only work with ChromeBook?

Hi, how can I modify the code so I can set it to only work with PC or Chromebook? Where do I set that in the code?

Leaf Browser in Global ban list for CIPA

The extension stopped working on chromebooks at the School I do IT Support for. Any reason? are there any URL's associated with it that might get caught in CIPA Compliant filters?

Annoying Bug

If I am on a tab that plays audio, and I decide to close the tab without pausing the audio or navigating to another page beforehand, the audio will continue to play until the song/video is over. I find this to be very annoying and it would be great if you could fix it, fam.

Documentation?

Hi!

I just installed the app and I'm trying to figure out how to use it.

In the App store it say:

- A tree structure for managing your tabs (that you can choose to hide) (like tree style tabs / treetabs for firefox).
- No distinction between bookmarks and tabs.
- Ability to rename tabs.
- Ability to "pin" tabs to prevent accidentally navigating away / closing.
- Not all tabs need to be loaded at once (they are loaded when you want them to be, and marked with a tick. You can also unload tabs to free up memory without fully closing them).
- Ability to clour-code tabs.

But I can't find any documentation on any of this.

For example,

  • how do you load/unload the content of tabs?
  • How do you interact with the CheckMark? It is even active or only a visual indication of some sort?
  • I tried to pin a tab, but I'm not sure in what way it prevents navigation.
  • Sometimes I get a new tab when I click a link, I guess it happens when the link targets something beside the current "frame". This new tab is sometimes added as a "sub tab" of another tab than the one I clicked, why is this? And what decide where in the structure a tab is added?
