Lines of warning code on two older websites

Hi there,

Two website seem to both be experiencing similar issues that unfortuantely I just do not understand. On the front page they are both have this message above the header -

I have updated the websites plugins and wordpress to the latest versions and does not seem to make any difference.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! This are obviously two websites that are old but I have been keeping them up to date.

From PHP 7.1 to PHP 7.3

I think I have a problem with PHP 7.3 I have been using the latest installation from the Aquoid forum: 4.5.4 and this fixed an earlier problem with PHP. I can see that there is now a 4.5.6 version, but in the documentation it doesn't say anything about fixing this problem... So, I guess it has not been fixed yet and I lack the knowledge and insight to find out whether this is the case.

My provider said that according to a scan my site still uses PHP 7.1. According to them the support of PHP 7.1 will be ended on 1 december 2019 as the developers will stop bringing updates to that version. This would result in security issues for websites still using PHP 7.1 and therefore my provider would shut down my site.

Error thrown Call to undefined function ereg()

Hi,
I've just updated my site from 4.4.9 to the latest 4.5.7.
I still get the Error thrown Call to undefined function ereg().
How can I resolve this?
I understand its an issue with php upgrades.
I'm not a developer, but I suppose something needs to be adapted in the theme?
I'd be so grateful for help with Suffusion, rather than changing to another theme.

Site is down possibly corrupted index.php

Hi,
I changed my User's database password under cpanel>MySqL after which the site gives database error. So, I opened wp-config.php file and entered new pass there. After that the site gives 500 error ("can't currently handle the request").
Chatted with GoDaddy tech support, he said my index.php is corrupted. He put his own index file "hello world" after which the error is gone, which mean the error was from the old index file. I tried to re-upload index.php from my backup made on May, but it did not help. Would appreciate very much you could help fixing index.php file.
Here is what I see in index.php (I updated WP to latest since then)

PHP error in functions.php

That code:

$header_args['width'] = $options['suf_main_col_width'] + $options['suf_sb_1_width'] + $options['suf_sb_2_width'];

The error comes about if the Default Sidebar Layout settings have empty string in for those values. This is unexpected, because the field descriptions state:

Enter the number of pixels here (don't enter 'px'). Non-integers will be ignored. Incompatible values will be treated as [number]

So despite this message, the defaults are not taken into account when left empty, and errors occur.

Good news: the workaround is to simply put the default value into the settings instead of leaving empty.

Image Loading Problem

Hello,

Please understand I am completely amatuer so will need everything explained in the simplest possible steps! If I have posted this in the wrong place please do let me know.

When this theme forum was at aquoid.com I went asked many questions to help with my website - www.darkdesigngraphics.co.uk and with help made a lot of edits and changes to the code and theme.

Currently my website suffers very slow load times which I am sure is to do with all the plugins I use, bad hosting and probably much more. But one thing I have noticed a lot recently, whenever you load up any pages, such as this one as an examples - https://darkdesigngraphics.co.uk/tattoo-designs/gladiator-tattoo-design/ - the images start off stretched for a bit while the page is loading and only after a while go to the size I have set them. I was wondering if there is any way to stop this from happening as I do believe this is probably one of the many reasons I have quite a high bounce rate.

...and apart from that I am wondering if there is anything else I can do to help the website load quicker and improve what I have.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I think I found a bug

Hello Drake,

I think I found a bug. It is not a big issue but when you have the time, you might like to investigate this further.

For example: Lets say you have an old Suffusion version installed and your site has a couple of widgets added in the above the footer area. When you update your site with the latest Suffusion version the widgets in the footer are moved to the sidebar area. That means that now you have to move them back to the above the footer area again.

Possible obsolete filter

Hi Marc, when you have some spare time. You might like to investigate the following filter found in line 227 inside the file "functions.php"

add_filter('user_contactmethods', 'suffusion_add_user_contact_methods');

I can't find any more refences in the theme's directory regarding the above filter other than inside the "functions.php" file. Theme Check plugin reports this as plugin territory. I just thought of sharing this with you. There is no hurry for this though :)

No right hand widgets on homepage

I have been on Suffusion for years, current version 4.4.9. Thank you for all your efforts and nice work. I have an issue now as the right hand widgets do not show on the frontpage since yesterday. The website is http://www.exquisiteslave.com (NSFW). Thank you for your cooperation.

Hello Marc, I just wanted to share this little issue. However this is not urgent :)

In my Spanish blog when checking Suffusion Options, I get the following message displayed on the top of the page.

You are using a version of WordPress that is not in American English, and your translation files are in the theme's main folder. You will lose these files if you upgrade the theme. Move your translations to a child theme instead.

As you can see in the message above the link is pointing to a URL that is not available anymore. You might like to point the URL link to here in github / languages. The file in question is suffusion-options-page.php located in /suffusion/admin/. Check lines 320, 330 and 334.

In this file you will also find other URLs using the following http:// and need to be changed to https://.

Suffusion, Navigation Bar text not flowing and breaking up funny

Hi Everybody, I have been using Suffusion, for years and love it! Thanks folks for keeping it alive.

Question somehow I do no longer remebr how to fix the top bar. I have one text bit that does not flow (it breaks the word up) does anybody know ho to fix it?

Updates to Suffusion?

Hi, I have been using Suffusion for years - thank you for all your hard work - But I do have one site still stuck on v. 3.9.1. I have downloaded all the 7 updates that are here on GiHub from 4.4.9 to 4.5.6. How do I do these updates? I see that I cannot do the updates via the Wordpress dashboard. How do I do this in cPanel? What do I upload and into which folder?

I have Suffusion installed in my dev sites running WordPress 5.9.1 and 6 Alpha with no issues so far.

The only action I recommend is to install the following plugin Disable Gutenberg to avoid issues with the Widget Block Editor in WordPress 5.8 and above.

Links are not opening in new tab

Hi. For a few months now, links have not been opening in new tabs, even when I check the open in new tab box and click apply and save the page. Any help appreciated.

I have Suffusion installed in a couple of sites running WordPress 6.1.1 and on my dev site running 6.2 Alpha with no issues so far. The are only a few deprecated warnings though.

The only action I recommend is to install the following plugin Disable Gutenberg to avoid issues with the Widget Block Editor in WordPress 5.8 and above.

How to reset the Suffusion stats

Could you tell me how to reset the Daily Visitors and Pageviews and Total Visitors and Pageviews of Suffusion in the Posts/Pages since the beginning (2016) as per Google Analytics. These parameters were lost and replaced after getting another statistics plugin.
I am enjoying Suffusion since 2013 (exquisiteslave.com, NSFW), it’s a great theme.

Indenting Issue in the editor.

Hello all, I would like anyone to test if this is an issue or not in your installation. By the way this is not urgent at all :)

I am using TinyMCE visual editor, "Gutenberg is disabled". When I indent a numbered list, instead of staying as a number it changes to a letter when you view the post from the front, "not the backend".

When you use Twenty Seventeen theme it displays normally.

Is the following something that needs to be addressed for security purpose or not?

The following is found by the theme check plugin.

Found echo home_url in actions.php. home_url() must be escaped. Use esc_url() for link attributes. A manual review is needed.Line 903:

The following is recommended <?php echo esc_url( home_url( '/' ) ); ?>

This is located in /wp-content/themes/suffusion/functions/actions.php

Photonic and Suffusion Issue

Hi, is anyone having any issues between Photonic v 2.31, Suffusion v 4.5.6 and WordPress 5.2.4?

The reason why I am asking is the following. If I have all the above active and running, the following issue occurs. If I go to a post and and try to click on an image using the mouse, I am not able too. That means that I can't edit the image details while using the Visual editor. However if I move the cursor next to the image and hold down the shift key and click on the left arrow on my keyboard then I am able to select the image and edit the image details.

Has anyone experience this?

Migrating to a different webhost

Hi,
I consider moving my site to a different hosting provider. My question is: if I download suffusion folder from wp-content>themes and upload it to the new host, will my site keep all the settings/customizations/widgets I made in my dashboard under Suffusion Options? Or there are other files elsewhere that store the customizations?

The theme is alive!

@mbrsolution, @Colinsp, @RogerKIWI, @vriesm, @fastasleep, @Trip69, @georgyo, @Lzr0, @Ciprian-Dracea

@sayontan was so kind to add me as a collaborator to this repo. I'm still running Suffusion on a few WP sites. There were a few things to clean up and adjust for newer WP and PHP releases. But now it's up-to-date and I will upload a new release to the dist folder soon.

FYI, I'm not planning on any functional enhancements to the theme. But I'm happy to correct things if necessary. Feel free to create issues or pull requests!

Delete title in head-section

Hello, I'm using the TNG(Genealogy)-Wordpress-Plugin within suffusion-theme. In wordpress I have only one page (called "stammbaum"), which is the base for all the different pedigrees generated by TNG.
The problem is, that each pedigree-page has the same title in the browser (depending on the page-name), because wordpress writes its own title in the head, BEFORE the right TNG-title, and the browser seems to accept only the first title-tag.

(In the screenshot below you'll find in the source-code both titles.)
In my opinion, there is only one way to solve this: to delete the first wordpress-title. But how can I do that? Where do I find the code, I have to modify?
Usually I do those things with the Yoast-SEO-Plugin, but with this theme I don't know what to do.

Deprecated message

@marcissimus, I receive the following deprecated warning message.

This occurs when you go to Suffusion Options -> Skinning and you navigate to any of the following options listed below and you change from Theme Styles to Custom Styles.

Body Background
Main Wrapper
Post Background

I also carried out a test and changed back to Theme Styles save the settings to see if the warning message would disappear, and it did. So I can confirm it only happens when you select Custom Styles.

PHP support

Does suffusion support PHP 8.0 or higher? Currently running it (4.4.9) with 7.4, no problem. But I have to update to at least version 8.0. Tried it, bit no luck.

Any chance of Suffusion being updated here to work with PHP 7?

Will there be anyone doing any updates at all to the theme?

Suffusion 4.4.9 reports many compatibility errors with php7

I have Suffusion 4.4.9, php5.1, WP5.1.6
I think of upgrading php, so I run "PHP Compatibility Checker" plugin for php7--- it reported dozens of errors. Not being an expert on php I don't know if these errors are fatal. What do you suggest? Have anyone run Suffusion with php7?

Mofified two files.

Hi all, I have modified two files in the theme located in the /admin/ folder. The following is what I changed.

File name = theme-options-layouts.php = removed the link in line 809 "desc" => "Don't allow pinch and zoom on touch devices. Selecting this will fix a bug on mobile Safari.", "This link is broken".

File name = suffusion-options-page.php = changed the support link to github in line 100 and added target="_blank" and also to the other links as well.

"latest" showing at top left corner of page

Suffusion 4.6.1 downloaded, although when installed it identified as 4.6.0 until I changed the 3 instances of 4.6.0 to 4.6.1

I don't know if I've done something wrong, or there's something I'm missing...

I'm seeing the word latest at the very top left corner of any page on my new site I'm developing for my genealogy (to try out a different plugin for displaying the genealogy data).

but I can not figure out where it's coming from - it's from Suffusion somewhere as it goes away if I change the theme, but I can't figure out where it's coming from.

Is anyone else seeing this, and can point me to where it's coming from so I can remove it?

When switch php versions from 7.4 to 8.1 there seems to be errors coming from suffusion

Suffusion 4.62 and PHP8

Hi, all,
Has anyone used the latest version on PHP8? Alternatively, what version already confirmed to be reasonably suitable for PHP8?

Widget Width

my website leytonorientprogrammes.co.uk has 5 widgets under the header and they are all the same width. Is it possible to make some narrower and some wider to show the full name of the dropdown menu?

Warning messages

@marcissimus, the following template "template-sitemap.php" located in /themes/suffusion/ is producing the following warning message for various lines.

"Warning "continue" targeting switch is equivalent to "break". Did you mean to use "continue 2"?

I have resolved the Warning message in my local install by changing "continue 1" to "break" for the following lines in the file "template-sitemap.php"

Line = 52, 55, 58, 61, 64, 67, 70, 73 and 76.

The reason why I am not changing "continue 1" to "continue 2" is because when I view the page running the sitemap template all the entries are slightly moved to the right by one character below each other. For example: (Note: I had to use hidden details to indent the word to the right by one character)

When I change the above mentioned lines from "continue 1" to "break" the entries are displayed below each other as per the following example with no warning messages.

Will not let me save update of any text widget

Whenever I am trying to update any text widget and save it, I am getting:
Service Unavailable. The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later. Apache Server at Port 80.

Otherwise, the site and the widgets are working, i.e. just width text update does not save.

Suffusion – 4.4.7

Suffusion, Widget areas after WordPress 5.8

I have used Suffusion since 2013 and I love it.

I just installed WordPress 5.8 and the Widget areas doesn't open. I have installed also Suffusion 4.5.6 and the problem is persisting.
The error message is still The "text" block was affected by errors and may not function properly. Check the developer tools for more details.

What should I do? Thank you for your cooperation.

Issue with PHP 8.1

I've got a site running WordPress 6.1 and Suffusion 4.5.7 on PHP 8.1.3. I'm seeing these errors in the error_log file

PHP Deprecated: Optional parameter $depth declared before required parameter $output is implicitly treated as a required parameter in /home/xxxxx/xxxxxx/wp/wp-content/themes/suffusion/library/suffusion-walkers.php on line 27

Has anyone developed a fix for this?

Make a change to one file

Hello,

I was wondering if you could make a small change to the following file site-footer.php located in the following path /wp-content/themes/suffusion/custom/.

In line 33, change the following URL path from http://aquoid.com/news/themes/suffusion/ to https://aquoid.com/news/themes/suffusion/. This allows you to reduce the number of re-directions in the site. I have added the code below with the updated URL for your perusal.

WordPress 6.3.1

Hello Drake and Colin.
Have you tested Suffusion with WordPress 6.3.1 and 6.4 Alpha? I just want to know if you have found any issues so far?

I have Suffusion installed in a couple of sites running WordPress 6.3.1 and on my dev site running 6.4 Alpha with no issues so far. There are only a few deprecated warnings though.

The only action I recommend is to install the following plugin Disable Gutenberg to avoid issues with the Widget Block Editor in WordPress 5.8 and above.
