scala-ide.github.com's Issues

The 'Downloads' on our website are not downloads

People not familiar with Eclipse (the majority of trainees) do not understand what 'update site means' means. Yet 3 out of 4 options on our website's Download dropdown are update sites, which, confusingly, are not properly 'Downloads'

Nighties page should be re-ordered

This is how I would re-structure it:

Get the Development Version!

[text]

Scala IDE Version 2.1, Nightly

[Feature boxes](remove the "Improvements Coming to the 2.1 Release" title)

[Update sites]

Scala IDE Version 2.0.x, Nightly

[text]

[Update sites]

Also, should the page be renamed to nighties.html?

The 'update site' keywords confuse the hell out of people

People not familiar with Eclipse (the majority of trainees) do not understand what 'update site' means. Nowhere in our page do we explain we're built on Eclipse, and the update site's way of doing things is unclear.

We point people at update-sites as opposed to a streamlined bundle

The p2 upgrade experience is hard to manage (cf. compatibility issues we're seeing reported weekly on the MLs) yet we're pushing people towards our update-sites rather than our more easily useable, better-integrated bundle (which is not released on all flavors we distribute).

twitter frame breaks the URLs

(This issue was reported in the scala-ide issue tracker, I'm copying its content here as it will get more visibility)

at right side of scala-ide.org there is a twitter frame.
each tweets is subscribed by "original tweet by XXXXXXX" line, where XXXXXXX should be link to the tweet author.

That XXXXX link should be pointing to the twitter page or if possible even extract web-site URL from twitter account.

However all the tweets i see are linked to "undefined" instead

Update "team" page

I would like update some information on this page and in docs.

As a starter I took a look at "Team" page: http://scala-ide.org/team.html - this info is obviously out of date.

I plan to split team into Current Team and Previous contributors. In current team I would include active developers: Iulian, Simon, Wiesław (I'll add him), Luc, Mirco and Mirko. Rest will be moved into separate paragraph.

@dragos Is that ok for you?

Add location of the zipped update site in each download section

Several people have been asking the URL for zipped update site. We used to provide this information in the old website, but it has been removed during the migration to the new website.

My suggestion is to add it right below the box containing the URL of the update site, with a smaller font (11px, instead of standard 13px that is used in the website).

Breadcrumb

Navigation is difficult in the doc, it would be nice to have a top breadcrumb.

The 'bundle' keyword confuses the hell out of people

People not familiar with Eclipse (the majority of trainees) do not understand what 'bundle' means. Nowhere in our page do we explain we're built on Eclipse, and the streamlined bundle's contents are unclear.

Share access to this repo.

It was restricted while we worked hard on having a first version, but we need to open it up. If for nothing else, to make sure that somebody is available if something needs to be done fast.

I think it takes a different commitment than the other repos.

Same rules as for the main repo apply.

Remove outline from top menu bar

When clicking on the elements in the top menu bar, an white dotted outline is created. IMO, we should remove it.

The sensible line is in bootstrap.css:

a:focus{outline:thin dotted;}
