developers-conferences-agenda's Issues

Invalid dates generated by `parser.py`

Invalid dates are generated by parser.py for the following conference : 27-01: [Elastic{ON}](https://www.elastic.co/elasticon/conf/2018/sf) - USA (San Francisco) (in https://github.com/scraly/developers-conferences-agenda/blob/main/archives/2018.md) :

{"name": "Elastic{ON}", "date": [1519689600, 1517443201], "hyperlink": "https://www.elastic.co/elasticon/conf/2018/sf", "location": "USA (San Francisco)", "misc": ""}

The start timestamp is correct (1519689600 == 2018-02-27), but the end timestamp is wrong (1517443201 == 2018-02-01). It should have been 2018-03-01.

Conference Hall sync ?

As an occasional speaker, I use Conference Hall as a CFP platform.

I see that I can submit my talk to several conferences. It would be interesting to scrape/sync CFP and conferences listed in this tool to add them to this repo.

I think this repository needs CONTRIBUTING.md

So, recently a GitHub Action workflow were made and it fails just because of a small flaw. To minimize this, CONTRIBUTING.md guide plays a good role. It is also a good addition to this community-based repo.

Maybe the guide should consist of:

  • Writing syntax
  • Difference of archive files and README.md
  • How to make PRs

Enhancements for the website

Hi !

First, thanks for your work.

For the website, I would like to suggest some enhancements :

  • ✅ make "month" clickable and display all events for a whole month
  • add buttons for "previous / next" near the date displayed when I click on a date (screenshot attached)
  • ✅ switch date format to YYYY-MM-DD (sorry for this one 😄 )

thanks !

World map?

I recently discovered this project, and I was wondering whether it was possible to use the current data to publish them on a world map?

I'm familiar with Leaflet and OpenLayers, if you need someone to take care of the rendering part.

However, I'm not familiar with how the repository is maintained, all I would need is the actual data to display in a geographic-compatible way, such as the address, or at least the city.

Can we collaborate?

Edit: I just saw #415 , and if it is merged, the parser will now be made in JS, then I think it's a good opportunity to make it call Nominatim or another API to get the geolocation of every conference so that the web app can display them in a world map. WDYT?

Sunny tech à Paris ?

Bonjour,

Je crois qu'il y a une erreur pour la ville de Sunny Tech, c'est à Montpellier, non ?

Merci pour ce projet en tout cas !

Bien à vous

Number of events is no updated when filter is used

When we use the filter, the number of events is not updated.
For example if we want only the opened CFP, the number of events is not updated with the real number of events with opened CFP that you curently see in the page.

Run daily a CI script to update CfP badges

By dint of doing this, I'm beginning to identify an efficient method for extracting the open CfPs for the current month, then going through them one by one, to compare with today's date. I'd have to run it daily, using UTC (not the best), but the "youngest" timezone (-11:30). Maybe the best is ideally, to calculate the timezone of the conference and compare it with today's date to see if I should perform the switch in red (but difficult/error-prone)

Note that my algorithm/script will only make this green-to-red switch, for the current month ;)
So if the CfP's shift lately, the user doing the update should switch back to green :)

Currently I'm doing a search with "october-2023&color=g"
So it's a "month-year&color=g" search to get green CfP a.k.a in French (ou)vert 👍

Import Droidcon conferences

Hi,

Thank you for the extended list of the conferences. I see there that the Droidcon events are entirely missed.
I can/will add them by hand. However, I wonder if it is possible to automate for the future syncs.

[Feature Idea] Caldav endpoint

I am throwing here the idea of a caldav endpoint.

It would ease the integration in our calendar apps.

As we are all very busy, this issue is a placeholder if anyone one day has time for that.

Thanks.

[Feature Request] Publish ICS File

Thanks to the great work of @HanzCEO you can download a .ics file of these events. 🎉

However, this file is generated by the client each time. Integration with things like iCal and Outlook requires the ics file at a fixed url.

I propose generating the ics file with a github action after each commit to main, and serving this from github pages. The existing code could be reused to do this

feat(ui): ability to search with more than one country

Hello 👋 ,

First, like you already know, the project is very good and helpful for many people, so for that, thank you to the whole community behind the project!

My request is very simple, as a user, I would like to filter out elements not on ONE country but with multiple of them (Europe has a lot of countries 😅).

The search module could have:

  • <select multiple>, to select multiple countries
  • a pre-filled list of countries selected based on another continent field ?
  • a way to draw a shape on a map 🗺️ to restrict locations (geojson search…)
  • something else… I'm definitely not a UI expert 😅.

Thank you

Add a filter for ClosedCaption events

Now we have a filter section and a list view, we can have a useful feature: to be able to filter on only events with "closed captions" (very useful for deaf or hard of hearing speakers and attendees ❤️)

The idea visually is to have a new filter "Closed captions":
image

And to list only events with closed captions tag:
image

Adding somewhere an App Script example for Google Spreadsheet to import the events list in a table

I built a Google Spreadsheet App Script that imports the json file of all the events into a Google Spreadsheet table, I think is also valuable for other people, and maybe makes sense to have it somewhere in the repo or in the interface.

Here is the code:

function ImportEvents() {
  var jsondata = UrlFetchApp.fetch("https://developers.events/all-events.json");
  var object   = JSON.parse(jsondata.getContentText());
  var data = new Array();
  data[0] = ["Start Date", "End Date", "Name", "Hyperlink",	"City", "Country", "Cfp Link", "Cfp Until"];
  for (x in object) {
    data.push([
      new Date(object[x].date[0]),
      object[x].date.length > 1 ? new Date(object[x].date[1]) : '',
      object[x].name,
      object[x].hyperlink,
      object[x].city,
      object[x].country,
      object[x].cfp.link,
      object[x].cfp.untilDate ? new Date(object[x].cfp.untilDate) : '',
    ]);
  }
  return data;
}

Sort by CFP date

It would be lovely to be able to sort the list by CFP closing date, rather than just the start date of the event.
