Welcome to a Day in the Life of a UX Engineer

This project was created to give potential candidates a good sense for the kind of work we do on the platform UX engineering side of Service Now. This codebase represents a simple shopping cart application, built using the same technologies and architecture we use in production. These include ES6, Web Components, React, Webpack, Sass, etc. However, the code is not without problems. We have introduces some bugs and remove some functionality to better simulate the day to day interaction we have with the code and through it show engineers different strategies and concepts we use.

Failing unit tests

There seem to be a bunch of failing unit tests across the application. Pls fix!

[Performance]: We are spamming the server with inventory calls

We're making a call for suggestions with every key stroke which keeps spamming our data source. We need to debounce the method to fetch suggestions.

Validation doesn't seem to be working

I can submit new items even if the fields are empty, or contain garbage data.

Missing Header

The header is not showing up. We should see the Shoppr brand, but its not showing up in the app.

Implement Item Totals

As a user I want to see the total I owe for all my items in the cart.

Validate that item exists in the inventory

Expected behavior:

I can search for items and add them to the basket if they exist. If I enter an item that does not exit, it should inform me and prevent me from doing it.

Actual behavior:

I can enter anything into the item input regardless if it exist in the inventory

Adding an item that is already in the basket adds it as a separate item.

Expected behavior:

If I add an item to a basket that is already in there, it should just increase the count on the existing item.

Actual behavior:

Adding an item that exists in the basket adds it again as a separate item.

Missing App Styles

The application seems to be missing styles. It should look like:

but instead it looks like:

[Refactor] Remove React from x-button component

There is no reason to use React for the button component. Refactor to be a pure web component.
