Hi all, I'm using Simple Launcher 5.0.6 in a Fairphone FP3+ with Android 11 (last updated April 5 2023).
In my home screen, I've created a widget for direct calling one of my contacts.
When I tap the widget to call, I get the following error:
Error: java.lang.SecurityException: Permission Denial: starting Intent { act=android.intent.action.CALL dat=tel:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx flg=0x4000000 cmp=com.android.server.telecom/components.UserCallActivity (has extras) } from ProcessRecord{dfda0b3024:com.simplemobiletools.launcher/u0a263} (pid=3824, UID=10263) requires android.permission.CALL_PHONE
I've checked under app permissions, but I see no missing permissions for Simple Laucher.
I would like to have the option to search through the app drawer to quickly find infrequently used apps without having to scroll through a long list trying to find it.
It would be nice too, if the keyboard automatically opens when accessing the drawer, so I can start typing immediately.
This may be a configurable option, as I guess, not everyone wants to use the search by default.
Anyway, thank you for your amazing work! This is another pleasant addition to your suite of apps.

I am using Simple Laucher in Palm pvg100e and when I swipe up in order to show the full lists of apps I barely can see the icons because background is transparent.

I am using version 5.0.5 in Palm pvg100e, android 8.1.0
Android 13. Pixel 7. Latest github release. For no apparent reason it asks me to choose the default launcher.
Simple Launcher seems to keep internal copies of all widgets and settings even after clearing internal storage and cache.
After uninstalling, you can see the widgets disappear from (in this case, Sun-Times from F-Droid), only to return when re-installed.
They can not be removed from within Launcher as they are not on its homescreen.

As an example, open app drawer, tap and hold an app, tap app settings. Swipe up to the recents screen from the gesture bar and the settings app (app info screen) is not their to close by swiping it away. You have to close it with the back gesture

In v5.0.4 the entire homescreen has been made unusable. In #15 only the bottom dock was affected. This is a serious regression.
Some Apps have missing or no icon. The missing icons show when using Trebuchet or Samsung UI.
With Myphoneexplorer client the main icon shows, but the icons for notes, tasks and SMS are missing. With Trebuchet the main icon is missing, so there is no icon.
Device is Samsung A22 with Android 12.

Horizontal mode (I would use it mainly in a car but tablet users would appreciate it as well)
Love the simplicity! Small usability comment: it seems like once you scroll up in the app drawer, the only way to close it is either a back gesture or by scrolling back up (swiping down) until the drawer closes. On the Pixel launcher, you can swipe up from the bottom at any point to close the drawer, just like closing any other app.

It would be lovely if we could define the app grid dimensions in X/Y so that the user can tune how many rows and columns of apps they want to have on the home screen and in the app drawer.
I have noticed this problem. I am using android 13 with navbar on screen. I use the latest version (Github)
It would be nice to have icon and font variable together with with a choosable number of columns and rows.
It would make it much more easier to use your beautiful launcher for all persons with bad eyes.

The sun time widget can not be placed any lower, despite app icons being able to go beneath it.
For reference, I'm trying to recreate my normal home layout, like this:
The option, "Close this app at launching a different one", does not current work on Android 10, 11, or 12. It is possible this is a permissions issue. If it is a permissions issue, what permissions need granted? If not a permissions issue, can this be fixed?

Just like Simple-App-Launcher has configuration for which apps to be shown.
You could create multiple layout profiles, each allowing you to customize your home screen with apps and widgets.
For example you could have a work profile, which contains all your work related apps like LinkedIn & GitHub. Then have a personal profile which could contain apps like newpipe and random games.
If you really want to go all out, you could implement timers, which would automatically switch to your desired layout profile at a certain time you set.

It would be great if we could define how much padding the edges of the screen have in order to fit more content on a given screen, or for aesthetic reasons.
Add ablity to group them into folders
Add ablity to multi-select Apps.
Something like iOS or MIUI/Xiaomi. There are a few apps that already do this like Smart Launcher 5 (They updated to v6) and Fast Launcher.
Hello, let me start by saying that I like your app and use it regularly.
While developing my app, No Nonsense Notes, I noticed that my shortcut widget does not show its icon on your launcher, but it works, for example, on the stock stamsung launcher.
It also happens in the latest android 13 emulator.
I thinks it's a problem related to adaptive icons: i used my app's adaptive icon as shortcut icon.
I fixed this by converting the adaptive icon to a bitmap in my code, see here

It would be nice if this launcher supported Material You icons, for versions of Android supporting it.
I prefer grid of size 6x9 and it is kind of a deal breaker for me to have a fixed grid like it is right now.
This typically also implies ability to change icon size as for larger grids you have to have them smaller (unless application adjusts them adequately automatically).
It'd be great if we could tap and hold on apps to bring up their actions.
For example, Simple Dialer allows you to launch to the dial pad directly, FitBit to log different things, Magic Earth to navigate to saved locations, etc.
Allow making folders (or/and) labels in the app drawer
Samsung has Dual Messenger feature, where apps that support it may have multiple instances, for instance WhatsApp is one of them. When it is activated, stock launcher and also at least Nova launcher shows two WhatsApp icons with one marked as Dual in the bottom right corner of an icon. I suppose Huawei Twin App feature has the same flaw.
Simple-Launcher does not show second icon.
I normally have an extra panel to the right of the home screen to hold two simple mobile tools calendar widgets, roughly half screen height each, for month overview and event list, respectively.
I can not do this with Simple Launcher, unfortunately.
The bottom row of icons when on the home screen cannot be focused when using the talkback screen reader
From either 5.0.4 or definitly with 5.0.5 my phone reports Launcher using 20% battery, and I also notice battery drain.
Samsumg A22 5G Android 12. No updates in the peroid drain started.
When I reboot my Phone (Samsung Galaxy S8 - Android 9) and log in, the Launcher does not start, and then two things happen:
When I select Simple Launcher, the App starts and works perfectly.
It would be nice to remove this Bug, because it is pretty annoying,
When an app is updated, it's icon becomes "default android" icon. It happens to homescreen and drawer.
Rebooting the device fixes them, but they should be refreshed without rebooting.
It would be nice to create folders on the fly by dragging icons on top of each other to declutter the home screen.

And I would like to use it on my tablet too, but the Icons in the App Drawer are way to large, I guess thats because the App is optimized for Phones, but (as you can see) I am not the only one who wants to use the Launcher on a Tablet, so Tablet support would be really nice, that would include a Horizontal Mode
