awesome-wsl's Issues

Add Thanks Here

If I left anyone off the Thanks, please mention them here.

Is there no Awesome-WSL projects/guides related to audio you'd suggest?

I've seen a few blog posts, and I know even x410, which you list, has the post about how to get it working. When I found the Awesome-WSL listing I was excited hoping to find some wrappers/utils/projects related to audio devices for WSL. Maybe the pulse audio workaround is it for now and there's been no further development in that space... Thought I'd raise the issue to see.

Support a custom WSL root mount point

Hi, I was following this tutorial to make docker work on WSL, and when I tried to change the mounting route, Awesome WSL just doesn't open.
The only thing that I added, is to the "/etc/wsl.conf" file:

[automount]
root = /
options = "metadata"

I think ConEmu support this (It contains a patched wslbridge.exe file), but I don't want to leave Awesome WSL!

Stale WSL1 link

Your link "WSL1 Installation Guide - Microsoft's official guide for WSL." now points to WSL2 instructions.

It's worth keeping in mind that not everyone can access the store (e.g. All "Windows N" people do not have the store, or any of the other telemetry/bloat), so they have no other option but stuff like this:-

Invoke-WebRequest -Uri https://aka.ms/wslubuntu2004 -OutFile Ubuntu20.appx -UseBasicParsing

Also, you say WSL2 has faster file-system-access... are you sure??? In my tests, WSL2 was 10 to 100 times slower than WSL1 when accessing my files. It kinda makes sense too - WSL1 natively translates the filesystem calls, but WSL2 has to go through the entire virtualization boundary to do the same thing.

It annoyed me sufficiently that I switched back to from WSL2 to WSL1 in fact (FYI - I've got two SN850X NVMe's in raid0, so slowness of the OS is extremely obvious on my setup)

6. Emulation

I think the Emulation part should be updated. WSL2 is a kind of virtual machine now.

Suggest caveat re: distrowatch

Excellent resources in this repo!

Just a small caveat. Distrowatch results are fun to look at but should be taken with a grain of salt because they are only based on clicks (within the distrowatch site itself) for each distro. This says nothing about how many times an iso or docker image was downloaded, or how many users, installs, or visits to official sites. By all indications Ubuntu and flavors and derivatives have the largest share of the Linux desktop market, and in servers Debian/Ubuntu are probably 35% or more, together the largest. In containers, Ubuntu and Debian and alpine are nearly the only game in town. Ubuntu is probably most popular by far for WSL2 as it's the default. Yet somehow MX Linux has dominated distrowatch for a couple of years. Many suspect cheating.

Xming is actually updated monthly

Xming is updated monthly, but you have to pay money for it. If you give the author a donation above a certain amount, you get a year's worth of downloads.
