infernal-synth's Issues

Building on Linux

I am using Linux Mint 21.1 and managed to compile binaries but there were issues getting them to work

the build directory has four incorrectly named binaries created and designated as executable rather than as shared libraries

image

the folders

infernal-synth/build/Release/InfernalSynth/Generic/InfernalSynth.vst3/Contents/
infernal-synth/build/Release/InfernalSynth/Generic/InfernalSynth.vst3/Contents/

have Resources/Presets and Resources/UI sub-folders

but are missing the x86_64-linux folder and subsequently the file named InfernalSynth.so
same for all other builds, Debug and Versioned

my steps were get hiir-1.40, compile VST3SDK, then adjust the folder paths as per the make_linux.sh script

unfortunately not entirely successful
would you have any insights as to where it went awry?

New ui - drop your thoughts and feedback

I'm hoping to have an on-going discussion here on infernal's UI redesign. Anyone and everyone please feel free to drop your thoughts. Things on the to-do list:

v Resizable UI
v Larger knobs
v Replace audio/cv matrices by a single scrollable list
v Disable incompatable options (i.e. Osc 1 to Osc 1 FM)
v Decide on knobs vs sliders (thinking sliders for ADSR, knobs everywhere else)
x Linux support
x Theming by config file
x Split voice and global onto separate screens
x Make 3 theme presets (thinking dark-flat-seven-sins/light-flat-seven-virtues/current-3d-seven-sins)

Current state of the art:

Build problem on Fedora 38

When building on Fedora 38 with gcc 13,1, it looks like some headers are missing:

  • tuple
  • atomic
I will post a second message with the files. I compiled infernal-synch using the "-include tuple -include atomic" CXXFLAGS.

FL Studio 21 b3517 refuses to use the plugin as "synth"

FL Studio 21 b3517 refuses to use the plugin as "synth" and insists on it being an "effect".

Details: both vst3s provided with the release are recognized as "effects" even if I specifically set them to be "synths", so, instruments in FL terminology. So, when I open it, I see an error window: You tried to open an effect plugin into a channel. Open the plugin InfernalSynth1.2 in the mixer instead. I don't see the UI at all and basically can't participate in the OSC. And the plugin looks really, really detailed and intriguing, so I want to! :)

Tech specs:
Windows 10 x64, FL Studio 21 b3517 (latest legit version that is not beta).

(Thanks for such a massive product, can't wait to try it for actual music writing)

Save some global parameter

Is it possible that the

directory where I last saved a preset

is kept, when a new instance of the plugin is loaded. At the moment the default is set every time I reload the plugin

Comments about Infernal

Hello,

This Infernal looks exciting. A few comments as I peruse the modules and features in my DAW (Cakewalk by BandLab, win10).

I see that patches are loaded through the right click context menu. It looks like patches are meant to be saved through the plugin wrapper interface?

One thing that I'd like to suggest as a change, if possible, on the user interface, is how the knobs work. The rotating motion with the mouse is just too awkward. Would it be possible to have a the simple up and down mouse motion? Perhaps combined with the shift key for very precise settings?

I look forward to making sounds using Infernal. If you like I'd be happy to provide some to include in your release library.

Thanks, E

Build problem on Fedora 38

During the build on Fedora 38, a problem occured during Presets copy.
The copy operated in cmake failed because of a wrong filename.

cmake tries to copy from presets/FX to the build directory while only a presets/Fx directory exists (Linux is case sensitive for filenames)

Consistent plugin name for updating/project compatibility

Assuming most updates don't break backwards compatibility I think it would be helpful if the same filename was used.
That way we don't need to worry about keeping every 1.x version installed so they can be found by existing projects.

Cubase: PresetName Keyboard Focus

If I try to save a preset, the keyboard focus is on Cubase. Only keys not assigned to cubase are recognized. So my presets are saved as qqq.vstpreset.

Workaround: Save and rename in Explorer
