to rush this release out i've coded in links to mapp, hardcoded "jun 5" in places, and etc. refactor into more sensical structure. basic idea:

have table called festivals (a festival is a multi-venue event like mapp), link up venues by festival. give festival organizers their own admin interface. etc

handle all day events (no time)

create primary category field on events and use it for icons

each event can be associated with a primary category (music, performance arts, gallery, misc). further info can be gotten from tags but having one category will give us a clean way to give an icon to each listing

if we know a particular venue generally only does music, or maybe even jazz we can have some field like default_event_tags which we will use to slap onto any events populated from that venue's feed.

Develop simple venue event posting form

I want to be able to go to a venue, pull out my iphone and show them an interface to let them enter in tonight's event. Even if they don't do the gcal thing this will be a simple way for them to enter an event per night

So at /venue/1/events/new, offer a simple form.

Also offer an /events/new form which has a venue dropdown as well as fields to enter a new venue as part of the same form. So if the venue doesn't exist have the person simply put in the name and the address.

duplicate events - mapp vs non-mapp

currently i just nuked all ical imported events in prod (anything from ical has a uid so delete where uid not null). otherwise we had conflict between the hand entered 'correct' information and the bogus time info coming from the feeds. figure out a way to demarcate events as 'mapp' perhaps with a special field. so for a mapp day we'd filter out any non-mapp events for those venues, or something...

Add ruby-based parser framework and parser for theater of Yugen

Create some ability for this parser to run via cron and dump a local ical stream for the app to pick up.

investigate usage of custom fields in ical or design markup

figure out wheter we can use ical custom fields for things like headliner bands, cover charge, etc or if we need to design a markup language to use in the description field. the markup should be user friendly so others can do it

add shared tagging partial to be used for events and etc

how to deal with events that have updated info

we are currently not processing events with same uid as we have in db. does uid change when event data changes?

Map redesign

Pasha:

1. Map all events for the day
2. Different color markers for events (today, tomorrow, later)

Yan:

1. Create an available json feed of events (/events.json) which can be used to populate the map.
2. Create date filter on /events (can select events.json?start=today&end=tomorrow) - with support for natural language params for 'today' and 'tomorrow'
3. KML/georss feed of venues/venues (research this - np)

on schedule and hourly views, auto-scroll to current time

this is a nice to have - scroll me to 7pm schedule if it's currently 7pm
