I've teached myself not to refer to commits using hashes that are not merged to master. Rather rebase and edit the original commit than create second commit relating to the first.

@glensc It's not too hard to work around this with workflow adjustments, but it would be nice if it worked "right" out of the box. On the other hand I agree it's not often an issue with commits that are not on master; the only times this has been a cause of annoyance to me have been wholesale history rewrites of complete repos. So this is much lower priority than #16.
