ender3's Issues

getting files into slicer

i have copied the files across to the correct subfolders ("printer", "filament", "print") in windows, C:\Users\XXXXX\AppData\Roaming\PrusaSlicer but they don't show up in the drop down box in the program. what am i doing wrong?

Intro priming line collides with paper clips

The intro priming line collides with where most people would normally put their paper clips for attaching the flexible plate that comes with the later revisions of the Ender 3.

Hence, the intro priming line should be moved e.g., to the side, where no paper clips are usually installed.

Quick question about which profile to use

Hi! I just recently started using a 0.8 nozzle on my Ender 3. I'm wondering which profiles I should use for my current setup:

  • I have a TriangleLabs V6 Non-Volcano with an Aimsoar BMG clone equipped in a direct drive setup, using this particular mount. I also have a pancake motor and guineue BLTouch too

Any recommendations on which profile to choose and how to set it up?

Infilll and Solid Infill and Max speeds for 0.2 print profile (stock) is way too high for certain filaments

Hi there! I wanted to report an issue relating with the Infill/Solid Infill and Max speeds for the stock 0.2 print normal profile. For some odd reason, they're set REALLY high (80 for the infills and 90 for the max speed to be extact) while every other profile is set between 50-71. For certain filaments (PETG in my case) this is way too fast for the infill to handle and it will immediately get ripped off the model and make basically large gashes in the model (which inventibly causes print failures).

Currently, I've set those settings all to 56 and that seemed to have fix my troubles. I haven't tried out the high speed on PLA but it's definitely way too much for PETG to handle

Compatible printer strings?

Hi - Thank you for keeping this up to date.

I was curious about your latest commit so I took a look at the diff and noticed that there's some mentions of Prusa where I think creality and ender 3 was intended, see below examples.

compatible_printers_condition = printer_notes=~/.*PRINTER_VENDOR_PRUSA3D.*/ and printer_notes=~/.*PRINTER_MODEL_MK3.*/ and printer_notes=~/.*PRINTER_HAS_VOLCANO.*/ and nozzle_diameter[0]==0.6

I see this in mostly the new 0.6 nozzle files.

When I was expecting to see Creality instead of Prusa. The theoretical effect would that these profiles would not show up when the Ender-3 is selected (I haven't tested it out for myself)

compatible_printers_condition = printer_notes=~/.*PRINTER_VENDOR_CREALITY.*/ and printer_notes=~/.*PRINTER_MODEL_ENDER3.*/ and nozzle_diameter[0]==0.8 and printer_notes=~/.*PRINTER_HAS_VOLCANO.*/

Was this intentional, (maybe I'm misunderstanding the reason why Prusa is in there)

[QUESTION] Print quality in Overhangs

With your profiles, when I reduce the max extrusion to 50mm/s I get good results, else my extruder sometimes skipped.
But I have a problem with overhangs, like the front of Benchy. The layers thee alway curl ob while being printed. When I slice Benchy with Cura, and stock settings it looks good...
What is causing the problem?

Adjust Z position

I have to insert
G28 Z
before G1 Z0.6 because we need to go home by Z axis before printing, otherwise it prints in the air

Insane high acceleration

Hy!
Why is the acceleration set to 9000mm/sec? The ender 3 default is 500mm/s ;-)
My prints suffer from ringing in both x and y axis with this profile.

Best regards

Filament priming

The feed rate during the priming strip is a little high.

The first part comes out okay, but during the second part the extruder gear slips and if your coupling like mine is a little wonkey it will slide out as it is the weakest link after the extruder gear.

Personally, I don't think overextruding with force is required to prime the nozzle.

Issue with install on mac using Prusaslicer 2.2.0+

Thanks so much for your work on this!

If I go through the config, and select the beta creality driver, and I exit, then copy the required files, I get an error on startup.

I worked around it by deleting/reinstall and choosing a MK3 printer and creality beta (and removing MK3 later) and it works (plus I get the ender logo on the bed). I then select your printer configurations.

Unfortunately, despite doing that, most of your filaments do not appear (only 4 do).

Any tips?

Thanks!

Error exporting gcode

Using printer Creality Ender3 - Stock, filament Generic PLA, and print 0.20mm Normal Ender3 with Slic3rPE 1.39.0, with 3DBenchy STL. Slice process completes correctly, but fails to export the gcode file, with the following error message:

!!!!! Failed to process the custom G-code template end_gcode
Parsing error at line 9: Not a variable name

I'm a total newbie with 3D printing and slicing, but it looks as the variable layer_z is not being initialized...

Filament yanked off bed when travelling on first layer

First of all, thank you for these profiles! They are amazing, except this one major problem I am having:

I am having an issue with the ender 3 0.24 FAST print profile where after the initial line that is printed across the bed in front from left to right, as soon as it finishes at the right side and goes to travel toward the center to begin the actual print, it yanks/pulls/curls up the last 10mm or so of filament off the bed with it. This also happens for basically any movement on the first layer of the print where it prints a line or perimeter and then stops to travel somewhere else on the bed. Then the loose ends sticking in the air get bumped into and everything is a mess.

Can you recommend which settings I can add/change to fix this?

Slicing with these profiles is very slow!

Slicing with these profiles takes a long time! PrusaSlicer 2.0.0 does the basic slicing quickly but then the "Generating G-Code" can take minutes.

When I slice the same STL with built in Prusa profiles it takes just few seconds!

As an example:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3576952

To slice this with the unmodified settings of:
Printer: Creality Ender-3 Stock
Filament: Generic PLA
Print settings: 0,20mm NORMAL Ender3

The initial slicing takes 7 seconds, Generating G-Code takes 3min 53 seconds

Now if I change the settings to:
Printer: Original Prusa i3 MK3S
Filament: Prusament PLA
Print settings: 0.2mm QUALITY MK3

The whole slicing and G-Code generation is done in 10 seconds!

A huge difference! What might be the reason why the slicing takes so much longer time with these profiles?

[BUG] Settings not working for PrusaSlicer 2.3

Describe the bug
The settings does not show up when using PrusaSlicer 2.3

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:
install latest PrusaSlicer (2.3) - copy the profile files over - prusa shows the following message when starting Prusaslicer:

"You have the following presets with saved options for "Print Host upload":
"Creality Ender-3 DirectDrive Volcano 0.6 Nozzle + BLTouch",
"Creality Ender-3 DirectDrive Volcano 0.6 Nozzle + BLTouch RECALL",
"Creality Ender-3 Volcano 0.8 Nozzle",
"Creality Ender-3 Volcano 0.8 Nozzle + BLTouch",
"Creality Ender-3 Volcano 0.8 Nozzle + BLTouch RECALL",
"Original Prusa i3 MK3 0.6 nozzle Volcano",
"Original Prusa i3 MK3 0.6 nozzle Volcano NO PINDA"

But since this version of PrusaSlicer we don't show this information in Printer Settings anymore.
Settings will be available in physical printers settings.

By default new Printer devices will be named as "Printer N" during its creation.
Note: This name can be changed later from the physical printers settings"

Expected behavior
Expect it to have the profiles as on 2.2

Question: Does the jerky-zick-zack move work in practice?

Hi, just wondering how useful you find the jerky zick zack move. I notice that you have it commented out (or its not there) on some profiles, especially Ender-3 BLtouch printer profile.

G91 ; Use relative mode
; Make some jerky zick-zack move at the beginning
; This is supposed to get rid of residue at the nozzle

Under extrusion on small cylinders with possible fix.

Hi there,
First of all thank you very much for the profiles for the ender 3. I'm getting the best prints I've ever had with your profiles.

I ran into an issue where the whole print would work beautifully until I got to a small cylinder/chimney shape. The printer would under-extrude badly for that shape resulting in a failure. The same file would print fine when sliced with Cura.

Pictures

The solution I found was to remove the following line from the start Gcode :

M221 S{if layer_height<0.075}100{else}95{endif}

It seems that the flow rate of 95 was just low enough to fail.
A flow rate of 100 doesn't cause any problems with the print, so I haven't noticed a downside to removing it (yet).

Just wanted to share my finding. Thank you again!

this is not an issue.. just a question

Hello..

i like your work.. thanks

i have direct drive setup with v6 hotend and bmg extruder..
u think i can use your volcano direct drive profile?
im not sure what differance between v6 and volcano hotend

Thanks again

Profiles not loaded by slic3r

Hi,

I am using your Slic3r for a while. Many thanks for your great work !

Now I made an updates of your Profiles on my existing slic3r 2.1 but your profiles doesn't appear in the drop down menue, only the printer profiles, not the print or filament profiles.

I tried to delet everything and started from scratch but no luck.
Then I updated to Slic3r 2.2 and but with the same problem :/

Do you know what the problem could be?

[QUESTION] No PLA filaments show compatible for stock Ender 3?

Starting from scratch, I installed the latest PrusaSlicer and launched it. In the configuration wizard I selected a bunch of PLA filament profiles, just basic ones like AmazonBasics, Hatchbox, eSiun, etc. Next I copied the profiles for this project over and re-launched.

When selecting the Ender 3 Stock none of the PLA filaments will be available, as they all are seen as incompatible.

Alternative Path for Settings

In the 4th step of the installation procedure instead of the path "C:\Users\Public\Documents\Prusa3D\Slic3r settings xxxx" I needed to save it in "C:\Users<User Name>\AppData\Roaming\Slic3rPE" you may want to add this since it could be hard to find for some users.

Invalid and Unknown commands in klipper

Hi
I use "Klipper" as firmware because I have a few invalid and unknown commands in klipper.

Invalid M204 command "N5 M204 T1250*82"
Unknown command:"M900"
Unknown command:"M280"

One parameter seems to be missing from the M204.
M900 and M280 are not supported by Klipper.

M900 is used differently on Klipper.

[QUESTION] Why no 0.4 nozzle profile for Direct Drive?

I'm curious why you don't have profiles for a direct drive with a 0.4 nozzle. It's a common nozzle size.

I already made one myself based on some of your settings and it's been printing fine. I just wanna know your thoughts!

Problems encountered with your config

Hi,

I've recently tried switching to Prusa using your set of configs from Cura. Overall I really love them, but I noticed two things I wanted to mention.

  1. I don't seem to get good adhesion by default on my glass bed, even with your temperatures set. I bumped up "disable fan for the first" to 4 layers, and this seems to help me. Wondering why you picked one by default? (Prusa default seems to be 3).

  2. At the end of a tall but wide print I found the head came crashing down on the print when it reset since it resets to left and then back down to 0 Z height. Cura's default was resetting to a higher Z and this never happened.

I compared cura's code and yours and it seems that for Cura they just reset to raise Z:

G1 Z10 ;Raise Z more

With yours I see it's an if statement. Since I've been seeing it reset to effectively zero every time for me I have to wonder if one of those variables isn't working right as end G code.

{if layer_z < max_print_height}G1 Z{z_offset+min(layer_z+30, max_print_height)}{endif} ; Move print head up

I double checked my octoprint log and this is what it sent:

G1 Z77.6*66
