Downloading Moka

Download instructions for all sorts of systems are available here.

Installing & Using

You can build and install Moka from source using Meson.

# build
meson "build" --prefix=/usr
# install
sudo ninja -C "build" install

By default it installs to /usr/ but you can specify a different directory with a prefix like: /usr/local or $HOME/.local.

After which you should be able to pick Moka as your icon or cursor theme in GNOME Tweak tool, or you can set either from a terminal with:

# set the icon theme
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface icon-theme "Moka"

Uninstalling Moka

To uninstall Moka, simply run the following. (If you installed it without superuser priveleges just omit the sudo.)

sudo ninja -C "build" uninstall

Once uninstalled you can reset your icon and cursor theme to the default setting by running the following.

# reset icon theme to default
gsettings reset org.gnome.desktop.interface icon-theme

Missing Icons & Requests

You can file an icon request as a GitHub issue. Filing an icon request or reporting a missing icon, please take care in providing the following useful information:

  • A screenshot of your issue or an image of the original icon you are requesting to be themed
  • The file name for the missing icon or the requested icon, for example gimp.png or system-shutdown.svg
  • A short description of the application or software that you are requesting an icon for.

Note: some software ships hardcoded icons, meaning when you install icons are not placed in the system-wide directory /usr/share/icons which makes them unthemeable.

moka-icon-theme's Issues

Plus,next,close and back icons

Thanks for these beatiful icons.
Could you change plus, next, close and back Ubuntu icons with new ones, more attractive and modern ?

Several icon requests

Hey there - great work on this icon theme, loving it! <3

I only have a few small issues with the icon set, mainly related to missing icons. Could ones for the following be added, please? (Icon names in parentheses.) Also, no worries on these - not many of these are used frequently; I just went through /usr/share/applications quickly.

Access Prompt (security-medium)
Appearance (preferences-desktop-theme)
Application Finder (gtk-find)
Audacity (audacity)
Brackets (brackets)
Catfish File Search (catfish)
dconf Editor (dconf-editor)
Dictionary (xfce4-dict)
Display (video-display)
Font Viewer (preferences-desktop-font)
GIMP Image Editor (gimp) - I like the idea of using pixels to depict it, but I, personally, prefer a consistent smoothness in this theme ;)
Gnumeric (gnumeric)
gThumb (gthumb)
IBus (ibus)
Keyboard Input Methods (ibus-setup) - symlink to above?
Main Menu (alacarte)
Notes (xfce4-notes-plugin)
Notifications (xfce4-notifyd)
Simple Scan (scanner)
Sublime Text - please create a symlink to sublime-text.png from sublime_text.png!
Thunar File Manager (Thunar) - another symlink for Thunar please (with a capital T); .desktop file is searching for it!
UNetbootin (unetbootin)

Youtube webbapp not working on ubuntu (unity)

Youtube webapp is still using the default icon and not the custom one that is currently on the icon-theme folder.
Tested on Ubuntu 13.04 with unity using the ppa version of moka.

Emacs 24 icon

Hi!

Please, make an emacs24 icon.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/865508/Junk/emacs24.svg

Locations I found are:
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/emacs24.svg
/etc/alternatives/emacs.svg
/usr/share/emacs/24.3/etc/images/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/emacs.svg
/usr/share/icons/Faenza/apps/scalable/emacs.svg
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/emacs.svg
/usr/share/icons/malys-ex/apps/scalable/emacs.svg

Thank you.

Request: Dark symbolic icons for light menus

When using a theme with dark panels and light window controls, it's very hard to see the symbolic icons on the bright background. A simple fix would be to make a variant with the dark symbolic icons from moka-dark. A screenshot of the problem with Elementary OS Luna's theme is shown below:
mokaelementary

SmartSVN and XAMPP icon

First of all, great iconset ;) Keep up good work!
It would be great if you could make XAMPP and SmartSVN icon also!

Cheers,
Nikola

Installing other colour variations

I'm very pleased with your work mate and keep it up!

I consider myself an OK Ubuntu user on 12.10 [Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU T5870 @ 2.00GHz × 2 ]

I've installed the Default Moka theme without any issues.
I then downloaded and extracted the other colour variants into a folder and tried running the install script to no avail. It opens up in gEdit and not in Terminal.
Is it me or is the script broken or am I missing a step?
I'd be happy to try the other colours.

Thanks in advance.

[Feature request] Non-symbolic weather status icons

I see you have the symbolic weather status icons already. Would you plan to create non-symbolic ones as well?

Indicator-weather uses the non-symbolic ones and the gnome coloured icon set sticks out on the panel. (You could even just soft link your symbolic ones if you think that's fine.)

some icons need added or improved

OS:opensuse gnome-shell( i will just refer to some icons in opensuse)
need improved: volume icons(i think it's a bit ugly); gimp icon: (the resolution is low in gnome-shell menu)
need added: y2controlcenter-gnome icon(opensuse system manager); shotwell icon; simple scan icon; y2base icon(opensuse's software manager);

Missing category icons

There are many desktop environments that still make use of application categories. Moka currently has none, and as a result, all category icons show up as missing icons. For example, in XFCE, set the icon theme to any variant of Moka and open the menu. See a bunch of little pictures where the categories should be.

Request: monochrome VLC indicator icons

It would be really nice to have a monochrome VLC player indicator icon. Also the default control icons in the indicator menu look broken (I don't know if it's possible to replace them, but would be nice).

Caffeine icon, plz?

Hi. Great work.
Is it possible to add a Caffeine icon also? It's kind of a combo breaker right now.
selection_010
Thanks.

synergy

Would be cool to have a synergy icon

Request: DB icon for .db .sqlite files

A file that represents a database is kind of special, therefore it would be nice - as Ubuntu's default icon set has - to have a separate icon for databases.

Request: Krita icon

There are two reasons I write this bug report, first there is till now no Krita icon, second there is in the default install no Krita icon in the right click menu too (thats bad). Because I use Moka anyway and Krita has recently replaced not only for me GIMP it would be awesome if you could create an icon for it too.

Battery icon on Xfce panel

Hello,
I'm using Xubuntu 13.04 (Xfce 4.10) and when using moka icons, the battery indicator/icon is showing the one from gnome icons.
You can see this in the screen-shot attached.
Best regards.

P.S.: Excellent work the one you are doing

Elementary update-manager

To fix elementary (and probaly ubuntu 12.04) icon dependency

Icons missing
Size 64 : aptdaemon-download (i suggest using system-software-installer) and aptdaemon-update-cache (I suggest system-software-update)

Size 16 :
aptdaemon-download

Some debian-specfiic icon requests

Some icon changes for debian:

Chromium uses the icon name "chromium" instead of "chromium-browser" on recent versions of debian, so maybe just put in a symlink there

Also, debian uses its own rebranded versions of firefox and thunderbird, respectively iceweasel and icedove, some icons for those would be nice.

EasyTAG icon within Arch Linux

Your EasyTAG icon doesn't replace the standard icon within an Arch Linux installation. To fix this, just copy the file "EasyTAG_icon.png" to "easytag.png" and it will work.

Some Icon Requests

Some common applications and games (at least for me):

Applications: Gimp, MComix, HexChat, Boxes, Brasero, SMPlayer.
Games: Battle for Wesnoth, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead 2.

Icon request: unison, geeqie, calibre, gnumeric, audacity, pan, mysql-workbench

Hey, really rocking your icon theme. Using your ppa (thanks for that) I'm sort-of missing the icons for:

  • unison (great file sync software)
  • geeqie (very fast image viewer)
  • calibre (ereader library software)
  • gnumeric (gnome's spreadsheet)
  • audacity (sound editing)
  • pan (newsreader)
  • mysql-workbench

Thanks in advance!

Mimetypes for developers

Here is some mimetype icons that developers need.

  • Lisp
  • C
  • C++
  • C#
  • Objective-C
  • Java
  • Perl
  • Python
  • Ruby
  • Nu
  • Shell
  • Makefile
  • PHP
  • HTML
  • XHTML
  • XML
  • CSS
  • LESS
  • SASS
  • JavaScript
  • CoffeScript
  • Markdown

That's popular ones and I think that it's most needed, currently. I have some design skills, so, I can help with bringing this icons.

Wrong folder icons size 64

folder-pictures, folder-templates and folder-publicshare are not the same has in other sizes. The symbolic images is not present. They are just a normal folder.

Photography workflow icons

I use many photo related programs that aren't moka-ized.
rapid-photo-downloader

shotwell
darktable
photivo
rawstudio
rawtherapee
