van's Introduction

Smart Van

This is my Home Assistant configuration for my van. I’m planning to have several smart devices in the van so I can automatically notify myself when things need my attention (like tank levels, etc.)

I’m just getting started so it’s all pretty minimal right now.

Features

  • Sensor for where the van is that automatically updates the home’s location so weater and other location-based things stay in sync
  • Dimmer for ceiling lights
  • Buttons to control ceiling lights

Roadmap*

See the issues for what I’m planning to add. Feel free to comment on them if you have any ideas :)

* pun intended

van's Issues

Door sensors

I bought some Zigbee door sensors. Would be great to have a sensor for if any doors are open.

Leak sensors

I bought 2 leak sensors. I figure I can put one under the water tank/pump area as well as under the sink. I could send a critical push if any leaks are detected.

Sliding door integration

There are three wires for the button to operate the door. When you press the door button, it blinks while it is closing. I'd love to use ESPHome to be able to press the button from HA. Unsure if it blinks if another button presses it. Could use it to add a "moving" state to the door in HA.

OBD2 Integration

It would be cool to add sensors for all of the van's stats.

There's a thread about it. Sounds like Torque is the best option, but it requires a phone to bridge the dongle to HA.

I could probably make my own thing directly with this library but will likely more Python than I can write lol

Level sensor

I saw some of the commercial RV management systems have support for level sensors to help you park. Would probably be really easy to add with ESPHome.

MaxxFan integration

Apparently there is an RJ45 connector on the van and if you short some of the wires together in the right way, it can control the van. I have some transistors in the mail so I should be able to rig something up with ESPHome.

Tank sensors

Need to figure out some way to get water tank sensors into HA. Would be great to add alerts for when things start to get full.

Victron integration

I read somewhere about someone doing this. Need to investigate once my parts arrive.

Dimmable ceiling lights

I have some cheap 12V puck lights for the ceiling and some PWM chips. Hoping to setup some dimmers with ESPHome.
