doflicky's Issues

Nvidia MX150 is not correclty supported

Hi,
I have a HP x360 spectre with a Nvidia MX150 using Solus (big fan), but I have unfortunatelly several issues I am unable to get fixed.

1.) The display options are ok, if working just with the notebook, but as soon as you connect an external display I have the following issue:
The list of offered monitor resolutions only offers me correct aspect ratio for my built-in monitor (16:9) and for the external one (21:9) with the maximum resolution. As they differ a lot the displayed content on the built-in display becomes practically unreadable. Please refer to the attached screenshots. On other Linux distributions like Deepin 15.5 I could easily resolve by selecting Full HD 16:9 for the internal monitor, which is unfortunatelly not offered in Solus and I couldn't find a way to edit the offered resolutions. So I am kind of stuck in this situation and would appreciate help. :)

built-in resolutions (16:9 aspect ratio, up to 4k, looking for FullHD here)

resolutions for external display (21:9 aspect ratio, up to 2k)

2.) The keys of the notebook to increase/ decrease screen brightness are not functional, at least using the proprietary driver installed by doflicky.

Looking forward to hearing from you and happy to provide additional information when requested.

DoFlicky broken when I closed the window instead of pressing restart button after uninstalling nvidia drivers

Dell XPS 15, installed drivers back and forth via doflicky all the time no problem. Once, instead of pressing restart button straight after uninstall I closed to window manually and replied via telegram desktop and went to power off -> shutdown.

Turned on laptop to be greeted with a blinking underscore. As it turned out my xorg.conf still contained Nvidia references even though all nvidia packages were gone. Manually deleting xorg.conf and installing xorg-driver-video-intel fixes the problem however modesetting driver that previously worked just simply doesn't. I can only get into desktop by installing xorg-driver-video-intel or nvidia-current.

Running linux-management-tool configure gpu results in the creation of xorg.conf with Nvidia references even if driver is not installed.

Missing default icon

It uses the jockey icon which doesn't exist in this repo and only exists in a few icon themes.

Add Intel detection

Solus has been using modesetting 2D DDX for Intel for some time now, but some people are having issues with the less mature modesetting DDX implementation.

Add an opt-in to enable installation of the 2D DDX, nick some of LDM's code to detect Intel GPU

Make DoFlicky multilingual

Although it's very easy to use even for non-English users and it's not an application people will use daily, it would be nice to make all Solus apps multilingual.

Support "linux-current"

If the uname is set to the .current type, install -current packages, otherwise install main package without suffix for LTS.

Wrong nVidia drivers offered by default

TL;DR DoFlicky should show at least the 340 version for the GeForce 650ti cards. Currently only offering 304.

After a fresh install I went to the software centre and updated everything. Next reboot I opened up DoFlicky to install the nVidia drivers but it was only showing the 304.131 version, which is much older than the >340 I use to install. After installation I rebooted and found that my mouse clicks weren't registering. I could see the cursor and move it but not click.
Installed 340 release through eopkg and solved the driver issue.

.desktop file has wrong permissions

Not sure where I should report this, but the file "/usr/share/applications/doflicky.desktop" has "-rw-rw-r--" file permissions, unlike all others .desktop files with "-rw-r--r--" permissions in that directory.

Be a little bit less crap

  • We have the new / nice backend stuff in, so overhaul the UI to be nice and account for multiple kernels.
  • Also add a new service to run at login and offer matched drivers
  • Support virtualbox guest additions through DMI table decoding
  • Offer vaapi drivers and such
  • Drop all the old shit pre-6 code
