Poor Performance in Windows and Android Firefox

Hello!

I love the article and demo, and I was excited to show my colleague. But she replied with "60 FPS? more like .6 FPS" - turns out it runs very poorly in Firefox. Runs smooth as glass in webkit-based browsers on the same machine!

Win 10 2OH2, Firefox 84 incognito with no extensions, hwa on, high-end intel/nvidia workstation

A quick comparison between the network tab of Chrome vs Firefox tells me that the images aren't being preloaded (or loaded at all in some cases) in Firefox.
