openfpga-nes's Issues

Feature Request: Optimized fill mode for Dock use.

Right now it seems the video scaling and crop modes are more optimized for Pocket's screen and not 1080p via Dock.

It would be nice to have a proper 224 fill mode with no horizontal cropping when playing on Dock.

Thanks!

FDS without Disk

Is there a way to load the FDS BIOS without a disk inserted? I know for other cores you can usually feed it an empty file to get the BIOS, but the same doesn’t seem to work here.

Wagyan Land 2 & Wagyan Land 3 issues

image image
Both Famicom games are currently unplayable. Wagyan Land 2 crashes shortly after booting and Wagyan Land 3 is impossible to play with the major graphical issues present. The first game, Wagyan Land works perfectly fine. The sequels seem to be the only ones having issues.

Vs Titles

which roms should I use? I have tried the Nintendo VS Arcade Roms (zipped and unzipped) and the .nes converted vs roms and had no luck. Thanks so much.

Incorrect Display Ratio ? / Ratio Option Suggestion

I have noticed that all my NES games tend to stretch to a 4:3 aspect ratio with black bars on top/bottom of the screen. I was not able to measure exactly the ratio on screen but it seems that it does not follow the original aspect of the console.

image

If I am not mistaken, NES (PAL) Displays as 256×240 (16:15 ratio) and NES (NTSC) displays as 256×224 (8:7 ratio)

Given the ratio of the screen 1600×1440 (10:9), correct ratio resolution values could be :

Integer scaling (6x) PAL

  • 1536 pixels wide (padded at integer 6x)
  • 1440 pixels tall (for PAL 240)
  • Slight Black bars left and right

Integer scaling (6x) NSTC

  • 1536 pixels wide (padded at integer 6x)
  • 1344 pixels tall (for NTSC 224)
  • Slight Black padding around image

Non-integer-scaling (6.25x NTSC)

  • 1600 pixels wide/ 1400 pixels tall for NTSC (20 px black bars top+bottom)

I know that screen ratio is a divisive debate, maybe adding an option to select screen ratios could be a great addition to the core.

Dip Switches

Is there a way to access dip switches for VS. System and competitions carts (etc), like on NT Mini Noir?

SMB3 Romhacks with Battery Save not Working

First I verified I had the correct ROM version(s) and matched the hash to the listings on the following romhacks:
Super Mario Ultimate
Mario Adventure

I was able to successfully patch the ROMs and test in an emulator on my PC prior to loading them onto my Pocket.

In Mario Adventure, the music plays, but input is unresponsive and the screen is black.
In Super Mario Ultimate, it's stuck in a boot loop. After displaying the "THIS HACK IS NOT TO BE SOLD!" screen, the graphics get scrambled and it goes unresponsive.

Super Mario Bros 2 doesn't work.

Super Mario Bros. 2 (USA).nes (MD5: 55f7030dc6173f2a0145a97f369f49f4) crashes to a black screen when loaded. The system becomes unresponsive and bust be restarted.

Spiritualized NES 1.0.2
Firmware 1.1 beta 6

Mr. Gimmick Crashes

Mr. Gimmick (E) title screen loads fine, but then the first level loads with significant graphical glitches and the core crashes to black screen as soon as the player is given control over the main character.

Elite PAL offset issue

Elite (which I think only has a PAL version) is offset by about 1/8 of a screen to the south which cuts off the bottom part of the play area, most notably, the menu you use to navigate options. Other than that the PAL version seems to run fine. I have also looked at other PAL ROMs and they do not exhibit the same offset, it only seems to be Elite PAL.

Duck Tails

I apologize in adva as this feels like a stupid issue to raise, but I've been trying to play Duck Tails (US and world versions) and it seems like theres some kind of issue reading the B button.

You should be able to jump (A) and then hold B to pogo jump, but it just doesn't register.

I thought it might be the ROM but tried and alternate and I had the same problem.

If I can, I'll also test my MiSTer (but it'll be later on) - it feels too specific to be the core, but I'm not sure what else to test.

FDS Games

thanks so much. this is great work! just an fyi. i tested all the fds games and the following wouldn’t load.

green Beret
ishidou
kattekita mario bros
lutter
moonball magic
nankin no adventure
pachicom
putt putt golf
puzzle boys
radical bomber
