Update confusing docs, as the @EnableDiscoveryClient is no longer required

In the section Talking to the Registry, there is a mention of @EnableDiscoveryClient. But it causes confusion because there is no use of @EnableDiscoveryClient on the entire of the getting-started project.

As mention in https://cloud.spring.io/spring-cloud-commons/multi/multi__spring_cloud_commons_common_abstractions.html , @EnableDiscoveryClient is no longer required, hence should be removed from GS

Spring boot version and spring cloud version does not match

The latest change upgraded the spring boot version, but the spring cloud release train is still set to Finchley.SR2 that does not work with the 2.2.1 version of spring boot.

Error when updating to 1.4 of Starter-Parent / Updating spring cloud dep to brixton

I'm new to spring and I'm currently trying the Netflix stack. I noticed that a new version of boot released, so I tried to update to the new dependency.

Cannot clone repository - error: invalid path 'complete/eureka-service/:q

Going through a tutorial and I cannot clone the repository, it appears that a file has been renamed to :q

Tutorial content does not match project files

Tutorial has deviated from the project in a few places:

Bootstrap file is mentioned in tutorial but missing in project files
Client dependencies incorrectly mention adding eureka-server which does not exist in project's pom.xml
Although I got the apps working, I have no idea what is going on. The rest endpoint does not respond to requests.

mvn spring-boot:run

Hi,

I'm a real newbie with all these micro services stuffs. And I started to follow your tutorial with spring and vertx combined.
I don't think I'm really opening an issue to the project because it seems like people were able to clone this project and work with it.

I just wanted to ask one thing (pleaaase, sorry again, I'm a beginner) :
I cloned the project to eclipse (I also just watched today how to clone a project) so, I don't know if I am doing it the right way, because after cloning it and opening the project in eclipse, I didn't see any java build path or compiler in the properties when right-clicking on the project. I don't know if it's due to the fact that I didn't place the project into the order in which I have my eclipse-workspace while cloning it. So, while going to the complete > eureka-service folder, and executing mvn spring-boot:run there, it told me : ' No compiler is provided in this environment. Perhaps you are running on a JRE rather than a JDK?'. I checked if my jdk was enabled, and I had to enable it because eclipse didn't include it actually.
And because I didn't see any java build path, I had to convert the project to a maven project...which doesn't make a lot of sense I guess because I also see gradle inside of it. But then, I could see the java build path. So I configured it to run on JDK. But I still get the same error when trying to execute mvn spring-boot:run . Searched for a solution on the net, but none of them worked for me. please can you help me? it would be really amazing.

error: deploy discovery service to cloud foundry

I've "mvn clean package", deployed the discovery service using a manifest.yml, and
run into this runtime error (cf a shows the app starts, but logs has error)

I've tried to fix the bug, but so far no result.
Appreciate your pointers.

2 server on same host getting different instances list

Hi there,

I have a Eureka Server A running on Eureka default port 8761, configuration looks looks this:
spring.application.name=eureka server 1
server.port=8761
eureka.client.register-with-eureka=true
eureka.client.fetch-registry=true
logging.level.com.netflix.eureka=OFF
logging.level.com.netflix.discovery=OFF

Another Server B running on default port 8080, configuration looks like this:
spring.application.name=eureka server 2
eureka.client.register-with-eureka=true
eureka.client.fetch-registry=true
logging.level.com.netflix.eureka=OFF
logging.level.com.netflix.discovery=OFF

And I have two Eureka clients both specified defaultZone at Server B. Their properties look like this:
server.port=8000
eureka.client.serviceUrl.defaultZone:http://localhost:8080/eureka/
spring.application.name=eureka-client-one
For client 2
server.port=8888
spring.application.name=eureka-client-two
eureka.client.serviceUrl.defaultZone:http://localhost:8080/eureka/

Both server are registered to Eureka themselves. However at Server B's home page I could not see itself, instead at the Server A can I see all registered services including itself. Why is that? Is it because A is on Eureka default port?

Another thing I've noticed is that on both Server, replicas address is always http://localhost:8761/eureka/.

This should be marked as "Only works with Up to JDK 1.8"

The documentation in the repository does not work with Java 9 out of the box.
A quick googling leads one to the following article https://blog.frankel.ch/migrating-to-java-9/1/ which is fairly informative on the various issues one will encounter when first getting started using Java 9 and an initial foray into the spring ecosystem. Fixing the guides to be either Java 9 compatible would be nice. BTW, why can't the dependency management system just resolve for JAXB? This is something that NPM does just fine in JS land, and composer does in PHP land -- or at least composer would complain about missing X extension ... which seems somewhat synonymous with the removal of EE libraries from SE 9.

Alternatively, indicating that getting to Java 9 is going to have the following X steps that need to be taken for each guide would be helpful.

Unable to start embedded Tomcat

I simply cloned the repo and ran "mvn spring-boot:run" on the "eureka-service".

I tried changing the port number. I created a new Spring Starter Project with Eureka Server, same issue. I created a config server, and that runs embedded Tomcat with no issue.

Unable to start embedded Tomcat

I simply cloned the repo and ran "mvn spring-boot:run" on the "eureka-service".

I tried changing the port number. I created a new Spring Starter Project with Eureka Server, same issue. I created a config server, and that runs embedded Tomcat with no issue.
