Will not convert ENEX files

Am getting the same error when trying to convert the latest version of Evernote to the latest desktop version of OneNote
evernote2noenote error

No matter what I do, I get the attached error message for every Evernote note that's in the converting ENEX file.

PDF Files do not seem to be importing?

I have lots of Evernote notes that contain PDF files as attachments (embeded) and do not see any of these PDFs moved into OneNote once a notebook is migrated?

Migration not completed

Hi Stefan

 • cannot complete migration

thx for your support! CU Peter

Evernote Export Bug - notes can occasionally contain bogus CDATA section

Exporting over 50 notebooks from Evernote (current version) resulted in 2 files having bogus CDATA sections in them (repeatable). The 2 files with bogus CDATA would NOT pass xmllint. Deleting the bogus CDATA by hand corrected the problem.

The saved note xml file in failedNotes was not helpful as it failed (as I recall) on the previous note to the one with the bogus CDATA, which was actually properly formatted.

The attached 3 images show the bogus CDATA I had to remove (in red). Examples 1a and 1b were from the same file.

I don't think this is worth fixing - but I thought people should be aware this exists.

Which OneNote account is used for importing?

Hi,

I have imported several .ENEX files, and it seems to be randomly added to either my business Microsoft account, my personal Microsoft account, or on the local drive.

How do I chose where the notes are imported?

Images and PDFs are not set to searchable

A critical difference between Evernote and The Rest, is its OCR capability. My work practices require that it works. I saw that OneNote has OCR, but thats only enabled by default on images posted directly in to OneNote. This import does not set that option. And I have more than 10,000 notes with a very large portion containing images or PDFs.

Is there an option in Evernote2OneNote to do this?

Importing of checklists

Hi
I just tried the importer and it is doing well for most formatting etc.
However, I am a big user of checklists in EverNote, and these no not re-appear as checklists in OneNote after using the importer.

I see in the .enex file that checklists and the status of individual items looks like this:

<en-note>

Cable

Cat biscuits

Mex mix

Beans

Ice cream

Shampoo

Milk

Corn chips

</en-note>

Is there any way to convert these to OneNote checklists?

Repo steps: I exported an evernote notebook with over 1235 notes, enex filesize of 720 MB, to OneNote running in Windows 11, connected to Office 365 account. It was stuck at 3 of 1235, when I cancelled the OneNote is syncing dialog. It then proceeded and throwed the attached error when it was 8 of 1235. Not sure what is going wrong here. Thanks.

Import errors - notes and PDF

Using the latest build, imported circa 900 notes from a single file. 2 errored out, screenshot of error for one and the two logged xml attached (renamed at .txt to allow attachment).

Also noticed that PDFs that are clipped and effectively embedded into a Evernote note so you can just view them on screen (ie no need to click) are imported to Onenote as files with the name and the type being derived from the URL/title etc. You can save the file as something locally/type pdf to see the content, so it's just the naming that is screwed up.

Gets Stuck after Creating new Notebook

Hey Stefan! Thanks for all your work building this.

I'm trying to import 100 notes. It finds the .enex file & creates a relevant notebook title, but can't import any of the notes. Any idea why? Images attached. Thanks!

A modest suggestion

I was noticing that at least for me it seems like Notebooks in Endnote correspond more to sections in One Note.

I just realized that you can multiselect the actual note parts of the note and just create a new notebook then a new section and move them into place. This might be a good suggestion to put as a note in your interface as initially I found it kind of confusing and then I figured it out.

Failing on every note

Hi

I'm trying to report using the guide provided but have had to zip the files to enable it to up.

It gets as far as creating the notebook but it then fails, and notebook OneNote has crashed. I'm using the OneNote app downloaded as part of MS 365 subscription.

Import issue

I got an error message during my first import and it said to create a ticket.
I freshly installed Onenote because it did not work with the OneNote that was installed before

I think it is probably due to something in OneNote, because when I opened OneNote again I had to confirm some licensing popup (which did not show up when I opened the new OneNote the first time before the import)
Then I closed OneNote and started the import again and it worked

Evernote2Onenote says that OneNote is not installed, but I think it is?!

Good morning.

I'm trying to use Evernote2Onenote to import a number of .enex files to OneNote. I have OneNote for Windows 10 installed on my laptop, but when I try to run the tool I receive a 'Could not connect to Onenote' error notification.

image

Most likely I am doing something wrong, so any help you can offer would be gratefully received!

Thank you.

A Copy of the note is left in C::.....

Exported from Evernote and hit this issue with the import to OneNote
Lenovo Thinkbook G3, Windows 11 (up to date)
I cannot attach the ENEX file because ENEX files are not permitted.
If you provide contact details I can send you the file.

Now maybe you can help me:_
OneNote initially saved Notes in the default OneNote director
y specified i.e. \Documents\OneNote Notebooks\ but now has defaulted to \Documents
Nothing I have tried will cause OneNote to store Notebooks in the allocated directory however, your Importer reads the save directory and correctly saves in the directory specified.
Any ideas to resolve?

Import Failing on multiple notes.

I have a OneNote library that contains screenshots of my airline pilot schedule. I am trying to import this into OneNote but the converters is failing on multiple notes with the following errors:

The notes themselves are basically a Title and 1-4 images (screenshots). I am not sure why they are failing?

Thanks, Regards, Ken

After importing, many notes are missing content and images

I'm on Windows 11. Downloaded the the legacy Evernote app from here. Then I exported all notes I have (they're over 3500) into a single ENEX file (which is larger than 1.5GB). Used the latest Evernote2Onenote-1.3.0.zip to import the ENEX file to my local OneNote. It completed successfully however many of the notes are missing the content. I tried the same export with a different ENEX file (i exported only 1000 notes at a time) but got the same result - missing the notes are created but empty with no content inside (also no errors during import). Are there any limitations on the number of notes or the format/content inside the notes that evernote2onenote app requires for the import to be successful?

Import appears successful, but notes are empty

Hello,

used the Evernote Legacy app to export notes to ENEX files.
Running Windows 10 with .NET 4.8 and OneNote Desktop from O365, version 2212 from Monthly Enterprise Channel.

The import is really quick (both for a 2MB and a 20MB backup) and it creates a new notebook with lots of pages. Unfortunately, those pages are all empty.

As a sanity check, I tried importing the same files with the (no longer official) Microsoft OneNote Importer v1.1. A much slower process with a different outcome. It also creates notebook with pages. Unfortunately, the pages have not kept the names from Evernote but all simply show "Untitled page". The good thing though: those untitled pages actually have the content I was looking for.

So I was hoping that this is actually something fixable as the ENEX files seem to contain the relevant information.

Any ideas what might be causing the empty pages, and how to fix it? Happy to provide more details if necessary.

Evernote Note Title not importing to OneNote Note Title

When I import a notebook, the Evernote Note Title is not replicated as the OneNote Note Title. I have removed all tags. Doing Evernote folder exports to OneNote imports. All other note attributes are coming in perfectly. Thanks!

UGH - Ev2On Errors

First I want to say how much I LOVE this tool. I've been using Evernote for almost 10 years. They recently raised their monthly rate from $8 to $12. I'm on a fixed income and a 50% increase is not worth it to me. I'm very good with Excel and Powerpoint.good with Word, and okay with Access. Surely I can learn OneNote????
Today, 5/29, is the second day that I've had multiple errors when importing from Ev to On. The errors from 5/27 were annoying and from a different notebook, but I can't remember the name, probably "f Crafts"
I've attached all of the files from the FAILED NOTES folder, zipped. (I can't see the file once I attached it...I'm a detail person and would feel better knowing it's there. ) It didn't like me submitting 50 .xmlfile types. I'm in over my head now...
Thank you!
Simone

Could not create target notebook in OneNote

I believe I followed all steps described. I have the latest OneNote app installed on my laptop from my O365 personal subscription. I downloaded the latest version for evernote2onenote (1.3.3) and unpacked it. When I run the tool, I get the messages stated in the subject line.

Spicy and Crunchy Garlic Tofu (Kkanpoong Tofu)
20210201T212137Z 20230613T153844Z Cameron Roe 42.34881591796875 -82.97162632757721 176.07179260253906 desktop.mac
 • 1 16 ounce block extra firm tofu pressed and chopped into 1/2 inch bite sized chunks
 • 1 teaspoon salt
 • 2 Tablespoons potato starch plus 1 extra teaspoon

 • 7 cloves garlic minced
 • 1/4 red onion diced
 • 2 Korean green chilis, sliced can sub seeded jalapenos
 • 2 whole scallions white parts chopped, green parts sliced on a bias

 • 1 Tablespoon gochagaru (or Siracha)
 • 1-1 1/2 Tablespoon soy sauce
 • 1 Tablespoon white wine vinegar
 • 2 Tablespoons maple syrup
 • 1/2 Tablespoon mirin can leave out if you don't have any
 • 1 tsp potato starch (this is the extra teaspoon from above)

 • 4+1 Tablespoons vegetable oil
 • 1/8 cup dried red chilis can leave out if you don't have any
 • 1/2 Tablespoon sesame oil
 • 1 Tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
Directions
 1. To a large bowl, add a pinch of salt and 2 tablespoons of potato starch to tofu chunks. Gently toss the tofu to make sure they are all evenly coated. Set aside.
 2. Prep your vegetables by mincing the garlic, dicing the onion, slicing the Korean chilis, and chopping up the scallions.
 3. Prepare the sauce by mixing together gochugaru, soy sauce, white wine vinegar, maple syrup, mirin, and 1 teaspoon of potato starch. Set aside.
 4. To a very large non-stick pan, add 4 tablespoons of vegetable oil over high heat. When oil is very hot, add coated tofu chunks in one layer, making sure they are not touching each other. If they touch, they will stick to one another.
 5. (In Batches) Cook the tofu and flip them one by one, until they are brown on all sides (approximately 7 minutes). Remove the tofu chunks from the pan and set them aside on a cooling rack to drain the excess oil. Repeat with the remaining tofu.
 6. When all of the tofu has been fried, in the same pan, add 1 tablespoon of oil. Then add the garlic, onions, chilis, and scallions and saute the vegetables until the garlic starts to brown.
 7. Reduce the heat to medium-high and add the sauce, stirring it with a wooden spoon until it reduces down into a thick sauce (approximately 30 seconds). Turn off the heat.
 8. Gently add back the fried tofu and stir everything together, so that the tofu chunks are evenly coated in your sauce.
 9. Garnish the tofu with ½ tablespoon of sesame oil and 1 tablespoon of toasted sesame seeds. Serve immediately.

ENEX export throws "violates maxLength constraint of '256' " on some titles

A few hundred of my notes fail to import due to (I think) overlong titles. The exact error is below, and I'll attach the note. Oddly it doesn't happen if I just type "lorem ipsum" into an Evernote title until it stops taking more characters, but it does happen for many many of my old notes.

Is it possible to just truncate overlong titles so they import?

Example error (the note came from a web clipping):

ENEX files converted - not compatible with cloud notebook from Win 11

Hello Stefan:

Thank you for making this convenient tool, and making it available for free. I have Win 11 installed, and I am receiving an error message when converting the ENEX files for use by the Win 11 version of One Note:

"We cannot open this section. This notebook section was created in an older version of OneNote and are incompatible with your cloud notebook." Windows' website suggest this error is (maybe) associated with error code 0xE40200AA.

Any suggestions?

Thank you, Andrew F.
