@nicolas-despres I too got confused by the example that goes against official recommendation. Hope @alexcurtis will shed some light on it.

Meanwhile you can try this snippet from my code

    if (this.state.cursor) {

💯 This is an excellent implementation of a tree view in React. I'd love to see the official example have the state contain data and also not mutate the state. I may just make a pull request myself to see if there's interest in this.
