📚 Mediumship is a browser extension that lets you try Medium with membership-features, allowing you to read all Medium stories for free.

Usage

This is an install-and-forget extension. It automatically unlocks Medium articles in the background, w/o requiring any user intervention.

P.S. If it doesn't work, sign out of Medium and refresh the page!

Disclaimer

This is an extension that demonstrates the ability to modify HTTP request headers to twitter url. Use it at your own risk! The same result can be achieved by the following ways without the extension:

• Use another device
• Use your browser's incognito mode
• Paste a url on your twitter textbox, select it and right-click go to link

This extension modifies the HTTP request header referrer as mentioned here.

We've emailed to Medium's security department about this issue, and the reply says that the method is not a vulnerability.

mediumship's Issues

Figure out why it needs a refresh sometimes

The extension works fine for few articles, but we need to reload the page to unlock others. Figure out the root cause of this!

How to use with Opera browser?

Chrome extensions work fine on Opera.

However this isn't working. I've installed it through developer mode, but I'm still seeing the paywall.

Any way to get this working? Or is Opera just not supported.

Firefox and Chrome not working again

Well, as explained on #9 and #10 it stopped working. Even after the update. For a few hours was working and now no longer.

Chrome Extention URL down?

Does not work anymore

Cleared cookies and did all of the other suggestions to no avail. I guess the vulnerability has been patched?

Extend to other medium domains

Medium has many domains like The Startup, Elemental, OneZero, etc.
Make a list of these URLs and add them here:

I believe mediumship stop working even on Chrome.

Just like what @itstheandre told in #9 but this time in Chrome.

Why do we have to logout for some articles?

For example, I had to logout for this article to make the extension work flawlessly.

I tried accessing the same link through twitter textbox and it worked without logging out.
I'm curious to know how this problem occurs and if there is any fix to that since you use the same method using Twitter headers.
PS : This problem occurs for some articles and not all. Thanks for the extension!

not working at all

This story is for Medium members

If the new incognito window is created by the extension, sometimes Medium shows the following pop up:

Even I refresh to the page. It did not work at all. I cannot read stories as before.

I cant upload the .json file in chrome

Support for Medium sites without medium.com/* domain.

Just wondering if this feature is possible.

For example, https://towardsdatascience.com/ is a Medium publication but the extension does not work in that domain.

I believe it stopped working on Firefox

Today I tried accessing Medium and it was as if the extension wasn't there. Did something happen?

New permissions on firefox?

Why has the addon gone from 'requires no permissions to suddenly:
