potlatch3's Issues

Potlatch 3.0 build 2022_01_24 build level info

Richard, thanks for the new Potlatch 3.0 build 2022-01-24! Windows version.
There are some minor issues with the build level information:

  • In the Help window at the bottom build level is still 2020-12-29
  • In the 'Save' dialog under 'Advanced' the build level is still 2020-12-29. This one is more severe because this info is also saved in the Changeset on OSM.

Thanks for your attention,
Regards, Pim (BikePC)

Potlatch3: newly added Background Imagery entry is not saved

When I add a new Background Imagery entry (Background - Edit - Add) the new entry works nicely during the current session.
However after starting a new session of Potlatch3 the entry has been disappeared and has to be added again every time.

My question: is there a way to keep newly added entries in the list for every new P3 session? Is there a local file which can be edited?

Potlatch three interface freeze on Apple Silicon

Downloaded Potlach 3 to give a a try - and on my M2 Pro, everything seems fine until I hit save, at which point the interface freezes and the login dialog does not appear (although it does let me carry on editing, no buttons work, so I have to abandon them).

Using Firefox to launch.

An otherwise identically configured (same OS, same Firefox version) 2018 Intel Mac mini works as expected. While screen sharing into my old machine is a workaround, it is hardly ideal (it has quite enough to do as a server).

I was not asked to grant any permissions and both machine have the T2 security chip doohickey, if that is relevant.

Get info says it is a universal app, so Rosetta not an issue I presume.

Firefox 116.0.2 64 bit - MacOS Ventura 13.5, 2023 Mac mini M2 Pro/ 2018 Mac mini (the Intel box that works as expected).

Why does Potlatch deny a changeset regarding node 4396753945?

Hello,

based on my own view on site and two NTRIP corrected tracks I tried to do some slight corrections of positions using Potlatch, but without success: Potlatch denied to save the changeset. Reason: "Error creating changeset" In the end I have been successful using ID editor.

Since I can't rule out that it's a mistake on my part, I've documented the attempt to make a tiny correction of a tag belonging to this node:
https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/4396753945
Indeed, the bus stop's name is "Masurenweg" (Masurenway) instead of "Masurenstraße" (Masurenstreet). But even this slight correction of a kind of typo isn't accepted by Potlatch:

Has anyone here an explanation? Many thanks in advance!

Non-editing mode.

There needs to be a way to be zoomed relatively close to the ground where either either Mapnik shows (or other OSM map renders) or data shows but cannot be edited. I work on Theme Parks and Potlatch 3 struggles to load very dense data areas and if I can maneuver to the intended edit area before editor mode turns on it would be preferred.

size of the window

Hi,

everytime I open Potlatch 3, the window is higher than my screen : I have to decrease it to be able to see the bottom.
It means 2 "problems" =

  • at the opening, the size seems not to be controlled to see if it fits the dimension of the screen
  • when we close the window, the dimension are not saved so when we open again, size is again too big.

Best regards

edit : I'm using Potlatch 3 on windows 10, my screen is a 15'' (laptop)

Imagery handling issues

  • 'Dim' setting is not remembered from one setting to the next
  • Floating imagery panel doesn't filter the list properly

Running Potlatch 3 with Wine

See attached, but stack trace is a fairly unhelpful "Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00000000 in 32-bit code (0x7bc4ece2)."

backtrace.txt

This was on Ubuntu 18.04 (KDE), running via "wine64 Potlatch.exe". The machine has 16Gb memory.

Note that this seems to happen much less frequently now than previously (the things that changed are that it's the new version of Potlatch.exe and I've installed missing fonts).

creation of a multipolygon without outer

Hi,

see #31

The result =
we have a relation with only one member with the role inner : no way with the role outer means this relation is dead, it is a bad data in the osm database.

Windows installer unable to Install Air Automatically.

When attempting to install potlatch from the Windows download available here I get the message below.

---------------------------
Adobe AIR
---------------------------
Unable to validate the downloaded version of Adobe AIR.
Please install the latest version of Adobe AIR from
http://www.adobe.com/go/getair,
then retry installing this application.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

The URL provided for manual install now redirects to another company which is a little confusing. After manual install of the Harman version of Air Potlatch appears to load OK, although I did manage to crash it once (I think I caused it to load a bit too much data).

Would it be possible to get auto-install working again?

Does Potlatch3 distort tracks uploaded to OSM?

Since a few weeks I use a new GNSS device for recording my tracks (10 measurement per second). These tracks are astonishing precise because they are real-time corrected by SAPOS data.

The more disappointing is how the uploaded to OSM tracks are shown by Potlatch: totally distorted:

How come? What am I doing wrong? Any help is really appreciated.

Save after "Logout" doesn't allow you to choose account

I've "logged out" as "SomeoneElse_Revert" and I'd like to "login" as "SomeoneElse". Unfortunately On save all I see is "Authorise access to your account" for "SomeoneElse_Revert" - there seems to be no obvious way to choose account here.

Is there a "login" option that I'm missing?

NLS tile server location changed

Hello. My apologies, but as I've not used Potlatch I don't know if this is relevant but I trust it is / will be closed easily.

The National Library of Scotland have changed their preferred server locations for maps with national coverage. Chris Fleet, their map curator has updated the osm wiki page https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/National_Library_of_Scotland
I have updated the addresses in JOSM and they may need updating here.

Most old addresses still seem to work except the os 1:10,560, I'm not sure if this is a gradual swap over. I also noticed the 1:25k isn't listed on that page but a new address following the same pattern works.

Thanks

Terracer

It would be good to have terracer functionality like JOSM's, even if we just restrict it to simple rectangles for now.

First of all we need to implement a "slice" action for areas: given nodes A1 and B1, slice the polygon into two along a new line A1-B1.

Then we can implement a terracer like this:

  • find the longest edge (A)
  • find the opposite edge (B)
  • interpolate nodes A1, A2, A3... and B1, B2, B3...
  • slice polygon A1-B1
  • slice remainder A2-B2
  • slice remainder A3-B3
  • etc.

`There was a problem loading the map data` error, even if imagery set to `none`

When I used Potlatch 3 today, I got errors like the following. When I had the background set to some kind of imagery, not all the tiles would load. Whether I had the imagery set to something or none, the map data would not load for the first few (or more) attempts - eventually bits would load.

There was a problem loading the map data.
Please check your internet connection, or try zooming in.

https://www.openstreetmap.org/api/0.6/map?bbox=%2D0%2E9007336646318437%2C51%2E16294176506863%2C%2D0%2E8950983434915544%2C51%2E165374763158376

Overpass

I'm having problems with OP routines.
The 'bbox' appears to return a much larger area than the area zoomed into:
https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=19/51.37920/-2.38023

On running the routine P3's screen turns pale yellow & hangs for a few seconds where I'm unable to move the P3 window. It does display the 'task' box
with the back & forward buttons & the way's ids and I can click through the
results but the screen stays yellow.

Example:
[out:json][bbox:51.2892,-2.5241,51.4691,-2.236];
way[railway=platform];
out geom;

On selecting 'Edit with Remote Control, could P3's window be forced to the front?

When zooming with scoll, zoom where the mouse is

This is the most annoying feature of this program. Currently. when zooming in with the scroll wheel it zooms to whatever is in the middle of the imagery. Stop this now. Instead, when I scroll to zoom, zoom where the mouse pointer is because that's where 99% of the time is where I want to zoom too.

Adding a relation to another relation doesn't prompt save

In https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/112692917 , I was re-adding the (recently undeleted) Llŷn Coastal Path back into the Wales Coast Path. Until I also nudged a node, I wasn't offered the chance to save data. Once I'd nudged a node, that node change, a null change to Llŷn http://osm.mapki.com/history/relation.php?id=1820886 and the desired change to the WCP https://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/1820890 were written..

The null change to "the relation being added to the other relation" isn't a big deal, but it'd be nice not to have to nudge a node to update the superrelation.

Load Trace then zoom to it

I would love it if when you load a GPS trace from the list it zooms to the trace. Instead, I have to manually zoom into the area where I think it is and find it.

Some imagery sources missing from Potlatch 3

OS OpenData StreetView and OS OpenMap Local (e.g. https://c.os.openstreetmap.org/layer/gb_os_sv_2016_04/15/16342/10477.png and https://c.os.openstreetmap.org/layer/gb_os_om_local_2020_04/15/16342/10477.png ) are no longer available in Potlatch 3, as of this morning.

The underlying tiles still seem to be there, the the version of iD deployed on osm.org can still see them.

Inside the extracted zip file Potlatch_3_Windows_20220124/resources/imagery.xml is http://os.openstreetmap.org/sv/$z/$x/$y.png , and https://os.openstreetmap.org/layer/sv/15/16342/10477.png gives a 404. I'm not sure if that's actually the file used though, as there's no "OS OpenData Local" in there.

How to avoid a certain Potlatch warning?

Hi,

This combination of the two traffic signs
Land-_+_Forstwirtschaft
DE:267 (prohibition of motor vehicles) and DE:1026-38 (agricultural and forestry traffic allowed) is often found in rural areas.

When mapping/tagging such roads, Potlatch warns you as follows:
Potlatch-Warnung

Therefore my question: What can I do to avoid this warning? Many thanks in advance for hints!

Empty relation

Hi,

IMPORTANT : i'm not using Potlach3, please don't ask me technical informations.

5 days ago, an empty relation was created in osm by Potlatch 3 :
https://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/4043470/history

It would be great to try to understand why and to prevent the next one.

(it seems that members have been removed from the relation so the relation was empty and it was sent like that in osm database : if it is true, it would be great to automatically delete the relation like ID does).

Best regards.

Build issues, June 2024

Current build issues:

AIR on Linux?

It should in theory be possible to get AIR 2.6 running on modern Linux (e.g. Ubuntu 20.04), enabling P3 to be run.

https://launchpad.net/~andykimpe/+archive/ubuntu/adobeair looks like the most promising solution and is reputedly 20.04 (Focal)-compatible.

I'd welcome anyone trying it with the "more Linux-friendly" AIR file from https://www.systemed.net/potlatch/download/ and reporting back. There may well be P3 issues with Linux AIR, but hopefully we can work through those one by one.

Backup of Bookmarks.

FYI for those who like to backup all their program's settings may like to know the file which stores your lists of bookmarks is (Replace UserName with your login name):

C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\net.systemed.potlatch\Local Store#SharedObjects\user_state.sol

Time taken to display "My Tracks"

Currently the first time that "GPS/ My Tracks" is used in a session it takes 17 seconds to load. I'm guessing that it might be loading everything historically (going back to 2008 for me)? Would some sort of paged mode or user preference for start date (defaulting to the beginning of time) be an option?

I suspect I upload rather more GPS traces than most people, so this might be less of an issue elsewhere.

How come that imported GNSS tracks are shown distorted?

Hello,

When hiking, I always have a certain "companion": it's a multi-frequency GNSS receiver. Under good receiving conditions the recorded track can be really precise due to the application of SAPOS data which are free here in Lower Saxony (Germany).

If I want to record the position of an object as precise as possible I just walk around it in a circle even risking that it may seem ridiculous to people passing by.

Before using one of these mentioned tracks for mapping I always check its precision by using the official maps of the Lower Saxony State Surveying Office which offers the possibility to overlay tracks on official maps and orthophotos in Geobasisdatenviewer (https://www.geobasis.niedersachsen.de/).

Following you can see a few of such marking circles on a screenshot made from a Geobasisdatenviewer orthophoto; you will find the location here: https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=19/51.58203/10.62041

Parkplatz_Walkenried_LGLN_englisch

Unfortunately, the track line is far to thick to identify the circled objects .

On the other hand, in Potlatch editor the same track line (here: blue) would be thin enough for identyfying the marked objects but it is distorted in a way that the circles are in no way displayed:

Parkplatz_Walkenried_Potlatch

In the German OSM forum I was told that the track is displayed absolutely correct in JOSM and iD editors.

Therefore my question: Is it possible to enhance the display of imported GNSS tracks so that they are shown completely correct in Potlatch? I would very much welcome it, especially as it would also support the precice mapping of on-the-ground objects.

Inconsistency?

Hi,

I have been mapping with Potlatch since the beginning of my "career" ;-). Recently I was surprised that a footpath I had mapped was not rendered on Carto.

At some point later it occurred to me that I had been fooled by Potlatch: to map the footpath, I first went to the "Simple" edit frame. There I found "my" footpath tag:

https://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/12b4-147-3ed6.jpg

Thereupon I switched to the "Advanced" field, brashly entered "highway=footpath" and wondered for days that the path, as I said, was not rendered. Finally I found the error:

This
https://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/12b4-146-5822.jpg

way it would have been correct and is now also entered this way.

Therefore my question: Would it make sense to use the correct designation ("footway") in the "Simple" frame as well?

BTW: Is it possible to add a kind of scale to Potlatch's map frame so it is more easy to map objects the right size? Maybe on the upper side of the small trash bin/scissors/etc. window ?

Best regards

Cannot show track on map

Using GPX -> My tracks -> Load does not work for me.

I've downloaded the first track on the list

image

The track appears in the Vector files list

image

But it is not shown on the map, below the table

The track location, as shown in iD, for reference.

image

Could it be related to the fact that the trace is private!?

creation of way without tag

Hi,

I have created a multipolygon relation with 2 members : https://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/13958872/history
One member with no tag is the outer, the other with some tags is a inner.

  • with Potlatch 3, I select the outer way
  • on the left, I select "members"
  • under, I select in the list "way 1043459092"
  • above, in the relation table, I click on the cross to remove the way from the relation
  • I save

No warning, no error : the save is sent.

Result :
the way outer had no tags. It is no more member of the relation so we have an empty way (no tag) in the osm database
https://www.openstreetmap.org/edit?way=1043459092#map=18/4.89659/-52.34338

Potlatch3 under Wine on Ubuntu 18.04 - missing fonts.

There are a couple of examples of font issues on the screenshot below. I can "export WINEDEBUG=+font" to get some font debug, but I get 250k lines of it(!) so it'd be useful to know what fonts are supposed to be displayed in those dialogue boxes in order to pin down what is going wrong.

Screenshot_20201231_013501

(that's the GPS trace dialogue on the left, of course)

This is probably a Wine issue rather than a P3 issue as such, of course, but it should be work-roundable.

Consider editing repository setings to remove "Packages" section

"Packages No packages published" is displayed right now, fortunately this pointless section can be removed.

Edit repo page config to remove it (cog next to the description).

I am not making a PR as it is defined in proprietary github settings, not in a git repository - and I have no rights to modify repo settings.

The keyboard isn't working correctly

I'm using Potlatch 3.0 on a MacOS Monterey (12.1) on an M1 Pro Macbook.

Most keys on the keyboard works fine, but 'd' asks if you want begin dictation, and 'e' opens an emoticon selector.

Holding down CTRL allows all characters to be typed correctly.

Let me know what else I can provide to help troubleshooting this.

close changeset with "Save"

Potlach should close the changeset after pressing "Save".
This prevent user from having to large changesets or changesets over the entire world.

Mappers not always think abbout pressing "C" before opening/editing something other.

Help with getting Potlatch3 running

After replacing my HDD and rebuilding the Windows 7 software on it, Im having troubles with Potlatch.
Installed the AIR from Harman, and then P3. The prog opens but won't display any OSM data, or backgrounds. The initial Zoom is 2, but when finally zooming in to around Z12, a message appears to say it cant download images ... check the internet connection. The default server is still showing.
All the Win updates are in now, along with Java and anything else I remembered I used. Help !

Being able clear data cache

I work with multiple devices to edit OSM. There should be a way to clear out data either when you close a change set (or after a save) or by pressing a button. Currently I have to close the program out to clear it.

Close changeset before exit

Another "nice to have", somewhat related to #9 .

I wouldn't want to close a changeset with every save, but closing before exiting (if possible) would be nice. That way you don't end up with a changeset that stays open for an hour with "Changeset still open - discussion will open once the changeset is closed. " displayed at osm.org.
