fake.net's Issues

Lua.Net install instructions rewrite...

Mention that on Debian (and maybe other systems?) initdb isn't a thing (and neither is running it!) because it already is running, it just sets up and goes. As part of this, fucking with the postgres user password may cause issues? I really don't know what happened when I tried it on Debian, but shit fucked up. Info

Apparently on Debian, it's expected you have the following installed before doing anything development related: dpkg-dev build-essential zlib1g-dev libpcre3 libpcre3-dev libpcrecpp0 libssl-dev unzip git curl

(I know first-hand that libpcre3, libpcre3-dev, and libssl-dev are definitely needed.)

Some stuff that nothing will ever tell you to do the first time that you need to fucking figure out yourself because no one can be bothered to write clear, useful instructions

For LuaRocks to work, you need to install liblua5.1-0-dev BUT NO ONE NEEDS TO KNOW THAT APPARENTLY. FIGURE IT OUT FOR YOUR-FUCKING-SELF.

For OpenResty, you need to install libpcre3 libpcre3-dev openssl libssl-dev BUT HEY, YOU KNOW WHAT WE SHOULDN'T TELL PEOPLE WHEN THEY TRY TO INSTALL OUR STUFF?

  • Except, actually, I can't remember if it was openssl, libssl or NEITHER. BUT NO ONE FUCKING PAYS ATTENTION TO THIS, INCLUDING APPARENTLY ME.

WHY THE FUCK DOES NO ONE IN SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT BOTHER TO STATE THE SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS THAT WILL FIX STUPID ERRORS THAT SHOULDN'T EVEN BE THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE?

I MUST BE A GIANT FUCKING IDIOT BECAUSE I DON'T MAGICALLY KNOW THIS SHIT LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. WHY THE FUCK IS THERE NO ONE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS KIND OF CRAP? YOU KNOW, I'VE BEEN TOLD I'M PRETTY SMART, AND I'M OKAY AT THIS "CODE" STUFF, BUT APPARENTLY I'M FUCKING NOTHING TO AN ACTUAL DEVELOPER BECAUSE I CAN BARELY KEEP UP WITH BASIC SHIT, AND EVEN THEN, ALMOST NOTHING I TYPE ENDS UP BEING OF ANY VALUE.

I should just fucking kill myself.

*Edit: Spelling.

Site Idea: Check Your Privilage M8

Make a website called checkyourprivilage.com that lets you login to a fake account and tell you how much privilege you have in . Let it also make a cookie that stores that amount of privilege so that whenever the user logs back in they get approximately the same amount of privilege, but have it on occasion randomly increase or decrease the amount to make it look like they've made some progress in increasing or decreasing your privilege.

Tweaker: TODO LIST

  • Hide most of toolbar in user route (these won't be created for a long time, if ever), just keep Home and make it link to index route
  • Make logged in page fetch and display tweaks (posts)
  • Make logged in page have a "tweak this!" form at the top for adding new tweaks
  • Make logging out possible
  • Design tweak effects and implement them
  • Add "about" link to some sort of footer to link back to Fake.Net / the GitHub ?
  • Make adding/changing name possible
  • MIGRATION: Rename icon to avatar
  • Make changing/uploading avatar possible
  • MIGRATION: Add boolean is_dummy to say whether or not is dummy user (default false)
  • Make going to non-existent users create a dummy user and populate it
  • Make mentions possible with @'s
  • Add notifications (and unhide toolbar bit about this!)
  • Make following possible and show other users' tweaks in your feed

ToDo: Rewrite README instructions

Maybe not these things exactly, but possibly

  • section for general guide to setting up a Lapis environment
  • section that is specific to running the server
  • section that is specific to setting up a dev environment
