I'm not familiar with Astrid's Tasker integration. I read that this required the Astrid Locale plugin which was not open source. Was Tasker integration only for location based reminders or were there other features?
from tasks.
It should be easy to do even without the Locale plugin due to Astrids
interoperability with other apps.
E.g. in the location-based app I am using, Llama, you can define areas (by
cell id by default, but there are other options), and then based on an
area-related condition (like "when I am near my favorite grocery store"),
open a specific app-shortcut (Astrid has the shortcut "Astrid list or
filter", where you can e.g. open your grocery list).
Tasker should provide a similar option to open a specific Astrid-list or
filter based on a specific condition.

BTW, the Astrid Locale plugin only provided the option to open a specific
list from Locale (it seems Locale wasn't able to open a specific
Astrid-list otherwise).
The conditions to trigger Astrid are completely flexible, though and could
be time-related or have any other condition supported by the
context-awareness app.

I guess what I was wondering is if I implemented geofence reminders would it take care of this?
from tasks.
Geofencing would be better than nothing, but not as good as Tasker integration, which provides a lot more.

As I said Tasks/Astrid should be usable from Tasker already, give it a
try.

I'm not seeing a way to do this -- I can open the Tasks app from Tasker, but I can't trigger a reminder.
from tasks.
Yeah it seems Tasker doesn't provide that action without the locale plugin.
I know that Llama does however, it is surprising as Tasker used to be the
best one around.

So you want a shortcut that will trigger a reminder for a specific task?

A reminder for a particular list.

👍 I would use this feature to show a notification for a work list when I arrived at work.

Install this plugin for tasker, it should enable to use an Astrid list
shortcut:

Astrid showed a notification that would take you to that list. I think along with that idea, the notification should only show if there are incomplete items in the list.

Tasker and Local already allow you to choose a shortcut to run. AutoShortcut is not needed.

I will look in to adding the ability to trigger list and task notifications from a shortcut in the future

Jay, where does Tasker provide a task to open a shortcut from another app?
A short pointer to this would be helpful. Thanks!

Well you can launch any intent. Locale has a shortcut option. I thought I
saw something in Tasker too but I was wrong.

I think it would be most useful if you could have smart location reminder options like
- (Optionally) The reminder should only trigger at the location when it's due or overdue
- A reminder marked for certain location should hold/snooze the notification until at the location
--for example: do not remind me about laundry before I get home, even I already scheduled it
(Can this already be accomplished with some llama/tasker trick? Maybe by using "android intent"?
I can launch a list/filter with llama, but the list might be empty and then it's unnecessary)

I created locale-plugin yesterday and a beta release will be available soon. Locale and tasker feature requests/issues can go here.
